Additional Support Needs in Schools: Getting it right for every child? Since 2007, the percentage of pupils with at least one ASN has increased from 5% to nearly 40%, and the overwhelming majority of those young people (around 95%) spend all of their school day in mainstream classes. In The Herald latest series, Additional Support Needs in Scotland's Schools: Getting it right for every child?, we’ll be exploring the policies, principles and – above all – realities of additional support needs provision in Scottish education via nearly two-dozen articles – still just a snapshot, but the sharpest picture we’ve ever had. Are young people’s additional needs being met with the right support? Is the presumption of inclusion working for families, professionals and pupils? Are we really ‘getting it right for every child’? ✍️ James McEnaney Read more: https://lnkd.in/eM2RBYWg #additionalsupport #heraldimpactseries #education

Business Correspondent, The Herald & heraldscotland.com | Scottish Financial/Business Journalist of the Year 2022
Housing investors are facing a bigger tax bill in Scotland at a time when more homes are needed. The property investment market in Scotland was 'once again wrong-footed overnight' by the SNP administration, a senior industry voice said amid a chorus of criticism. Parts of the Scottish Government’s Budget for next year were welcomed within the industry such as reinstating an affordable housing allocation cut of £200 million. However, plans took stinging criticism for adding more costs to potential housing investors. A separate key industry figure said 'the damage of this year’s cuts cannot be undone overnight' while another said that 'the (tax) decision leaves Scotland as the most expensive place in the UK to rent out a property'.
