  • The Worshipful Company Of Loriners Visit to the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery On 13th December, members of the Worshipful Company of Loriners enjoyed a memorable and insightful visit to the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery (KTRHA) in Woolwich. It has been wonderful in recent years to maintain and strengthen the connection between the Loriners and this iconic regiment, and this visit was yet another highlight in our long-standing relationship. The day commenced at 10.30 am with tea and coffee served in the History Room, generously funded by the Loriners as part of the Company’s 750th anniversary celebrations. This warm and convivial start set the tone for a day filled with discovery and fellowship. Following refreshments, attendees were treated to an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of the King’s Troop’s facilities. Members had the rare opportunity to examine the regiment’s special ceremonial guns up close and visit the horses in the impressive King George VI Lines. The tour also included visits to the workshops, saddlery, tailoring, and forge, where participants were able to observe the exceptional craftsmanship that goes into supporting the Troop’s operations. A particular highlight of the day was the tour of the saddlers’ store, where participants gained fascinating insights into how the Troop’s tack and other equipment are meticulously crafted and maintained to exacting standards. Adding to the excitement of the day was the Loriners’ Company Jumping event, which took place during the visit. Members were able to watch the thrilling proceedings and witness the Master presenting prizes to the talented competitors at the conclusion of the event. The visit provided a unique blend of history, craftsmanship, and equestrian excellence, furthering the Loriners’ appreciation of the dedication and skill within the King’s Troop. The day concluded at approximately 3 pm, leaving all attendees with a deep sense of admiration for the regiment and its traditions. This special visit was a fitting tribute and a testament to the enduring ties between the Company and the King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery. #jointheloriners [email protected]

  • Master Loriner visits RMA Sandhurst On Thursday 28th November The Master Loriner George Anderson was invited to the British Army Equitation Association Sports Awards Dinner. This was held at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. A rare chance to see inside the college. We gathered in the hall of the Old College for drinks before moving into the Indian Army Memorial Room for dinner. At the end of the meal several awards and prizes for equine excellence were presented. I was delighted to be asked to present two of the awards. The Mounted Unit League to the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment and the Inter-Corps League to the Royal Artillery Regiment. After dinner praise was given to the Loriners for all their support to the Army’s equine sport. A most enjoyable occasion. #jointhelloriners [email protected] Master, George Anderson

  • Loriner Focus: Christina Grieve's Journey into the Worshipful Company of Loriners Christina Grieve recently shared her inspiring journey of becoming a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Loriners, a historic City of London livery company dedicated to equestrian craftsmanship and welfare. Christina has been involved with Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) for nearly 30 years, volunteering in Hong Kong, Malaysia, and the UK. As a Regional Coach, she helps train RDA coaches across the East Region and nationally. Her introduction to the Loriners came through a fellow Freeman, who invited her to an admission ceremony at Tallow Chandlers Hall. This experience evoked memories of her earlier career as an investment manager in the City of London, where she often visited magnificent livery halls. What captivated Christina was the sense of community within the Loriners. She discovered familiar faces, including Olivia Turner, who had advised her on a bit for her Lusitano mare, and Georgy, a fellow RDA coach she had trained online. A visit to the Tower of London for the Ceremony of the Keys—a unique and historic event—cemented her interest in the Company. The Loriners’ commitment to equestrian causes resonated deeply with Christina. Their support for Riding for the Disabled, funding for equine health research, and educational courses at institutions like Capel Manor College and Walsall College aligned perfectly with her passions. Following an application and interview, Christina was admitted at Saddlers’ Hall in a traditional ceremony, which was followed by a black-tie dinner. She is now applying for the Freedom of the City of London and hopes to progress to becoming a Liveryman of the Loriners. Christina encourages others to explore joining the Worshipful Company of Loriners, highlighting the warm welcome and shared dedication to equestrian tradition and welfare. #jointheloriners [email protected]

  • On Wednesday 13th November the Master Loriner attended a meeting of the board of the Equine Fitting Council. A joint collaboration of the Loriners and Saddlers to produce an accreditation and registration list of qualified saddle and bit fitters. The Council is developing well with over 100 registered fitters. In the afternoon the board were invited to a private tour of the Royal Mews at Buckingham Palace. We were shown around all the departments necessary to maintain over 40 carriages and the associated horses. The Gold State Coach was a hit obviously. Then a demonstration was given by some of the coachmen and stable staff of all the work needed to safely harness a single horse for a carriage and then how to harness a pair and put them to the coach. • 🌟 Celebrating Sister mary-joy langdon: A Lifetime of Dedication and Inspiration 🌟 Sister Mary Joy is a compassionate and visionary leader whose life's work has transformed countless lives. From blazing trails as Britain’s first female retained firefighter to founding the The Wormwood Scrubs Pony Centre in 1989, her journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. Her vision to help inner-city children—especially those with disabilities—through equine therapy began humbly with just three ponies. Today, the centre is home to 20 horses and has touched the lives of over 11,000 people. Sister Mary Joy’s connection with the British Horse Society (The) (BHS) runs deep. A Life Member since her teens, she has championed BHS initiatives such as Changing Lives through Horses, enrolling children in programmes that embody the Society’s values of inclusion, education, and welfare. Her leadership and fundraising prowess led to the construction of a large indoor riding arena in 1994 through the BBC TV programme Challenge Anneka. High-profile supporters like BHS President Martin Clunes, who serves as the centre’s Patron, and BHS Vice-Patron, HRH The Princess Royal, who visited earlier this year, have further amplified the centre’s impact. But that’s not all! Sister Mary Joy has been widely recognized for her contributions: ✨ 2012 London Olympics: Olympic Torchbearer ✨ 2018: Recipient of the British Empire Medal for services to disabled and disadvantaged children ✨ Fellow of the Riding for the Disabled Association As she steps down as CEO in 2024, Sister Mary Joy leaves behind a remarkable legacy that will continue to inspire generations in the equestrian world and beyond. Thank you, Sister Mary Joy, for your unparalleled dedication and impact! 🙌 #EquineTherapy #Leadership #Inspiration #BritishHorseSociety #WormwoodScrubsPonyCentre #ChangingLives #jointheloriners [email protected]

  • The Worshipful Company Of Loriners has traditionally been represented at the Lord Mayor’s Show, an iconic City of London Corporation event dating back to the 13th century. Alastair King is the 696th Lord Mayor and this annual pageant celebrates the inauguration of the new Rt. Hon. Lord Mayor of London and features floats, processions, and representations from various livery companies. Loriners, whose craft historically involved creating metal parts for horse harnesses such as bits, bridles, and stirrups, often showcase their heritage and craftsmanship during the parade. At the Lord Mayor’s Show, the Loriners were represented by the Master George Anderson, the Master Elect Nick Bensted-Smith, Under Warden John Morton, Immediate Past Master Colin Gurley and Liveryman Gillian Sainsbury alongside other livery companies, embodying centuries of tradition, craft, and community service. Their involvement underscores the ongoing influence of their craft in London’s history and equestrian heritage. #jointheloriners [email protected]
