Opportunities in Govtech in New York In January we plan to announce new US partnerships to further support Scottish companies entering the market.
Eyes on the New York Skyline As I complete my trip to New York, it's evident that the city's tech landscape is brimming with optimism and a collaborative spirit. Several key trends are shaping the future which I've attempted to capture here. 🗽 𝐀𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠: The enthusiasm for AI and ML remains unwavering. Businesses are increasingly integrating these technologies to drive efficiencies and unlock new opportunities. Notably, New York is emerging as a significant hub for AI startups, attracting talent and investment. One investor told me that they wouldn't look at a tech company that didn't utilise AI in some way! 🗽 𝐂𝐲𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐙𝐞𝐫𝐨 𝐓𝐫𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐀𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬: With the escalation of cybersecurity threats, there's a heightened focus on robust security measures. Organizations, particularly in the finance sector, are investing heavily in solutions to keep them ahead of the threat "bad actors" play. Those offering innovative security solutions will certainly secure an audience here. 🗽 𝐍𝐨-𝐂𝐨𝐝𝐞 𝐒𝐨𝐥𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐎𝐮𝐭𝐬𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭: To address internal IT resource constraints, businesses are turning to no-code platforms and outsourcing development. The need to compete with others in the market drives this need to develop and deploy quickly. 🗽 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐏𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬: There's a growing emphasis on leveraging technology to enhance public services. Scotland's reputation in this domain positions its tech startups favourably to collaborate with government bodies seeking efficient solutions. Initiatives such as CivTech Scotland are recognised as world-leading in this area. 🗽 5𝐆 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐅𝐢𝐱𝐞𝐝 𝐖𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬 (𝐅𝐖𝐀): The rollout of 5G and FWA is set to transform connectivity across the US, offering high-speed internet without extensive physical infrastructure. This capability is further embedding home working practices and encouraging the deployment of IoT-based solutions. 🗽 𝐐𝐮𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐮𝐦 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠: Discussions around quantum computing are gaining momentum. Industries such as finance and healthcare are exploring its potential to solve complex problems beyond the capabilities of classical computers. Notably, upstate New York is positioning itself as a hub for quantum computing research, attracting significant investments. After even a few days in this incredible city, I feel more positive about the future. There's a palpable openness to partnering with new entities and adopting innovative solutions, making it an exciting environment for engagement. For Scottish tech startups, I hope these trends highlight areas of opportunity and potential collaboration but these are not exclusive as there is always demand for focused solutions and I would encourage utilising entities like The Scottish GovTech Cluster to do this.

UK Government Speech https://lnkd.in/eAv4nV4Q pushing for the adoption of "Startup Methodologies" to Government. Has a symbiotic relationship between football analytics (Data Science) and coaching tactics changed the game for the better?
Slow death of the "long shot" in football, BBC Sport has done a remarkable analysis of shooting patterns using football analytics. https://lnkd.in/eZBjKWFQ In 2006 22.3% of goals being from outside the penalty box, now 12.4%. Per game, long range shots 13.3% 2004, now 9.1%. The consensus being is that coaching has changed player behaviour based on analytics. My question is although the statistics never lie, does it make for less entertainment having seen Bale Lampard and Beckham score from impossible positions. #sportsanalytics #footaball #dataanalytics #datascience

The Scottish GovTech Cluster reposted this
Thanks to CENSIS and Paul Winstanley for a great event in Glasgow today. Censis clearly gives an amazing platform to the vast and exciting scottish tech eco system as shown today. Also a fantastic Keynote by Jeremy White from WIRED about AI competitive advantage for Businesses. I see such similarities with Spain having been to many similar events. There is such great potencial for Scottish and Spanish companies to work closer on IOT and Technology solutions. Also was great to meet up with the rest of Scottish Business Network Russell Dalgleish Steven Turner Cath Strachan and also getting to catch up with Ruby Sweeney and my colleague Matthew Kendrick This event is so important giving a voice to in some cases life changing innovative tech.Congrats to all the companies involved for a great event. #CENSIS24 #networking #AI #IOT #technology #scotlandisnow #craiggunn
