This Hogmanay, we're asking residents in Edinburgh Zoo's local area to refrain from setting off fireworks, following the death of red panda kit Roxie on bonfire night. As always, we will do all we can to protect our animals from fireworks, including keeping them indoors and providing deep bedding where possible to reduce the impact of the noise. The City of Edinburgh Council cannot create a fireworks exclusion zone around the zoo in time for Hogmanay due to the minimum consultation period required, so we are asking residents to help us by not setting off fireworks which may frighten animals. Having recently turned 28, Highland Wildlife Park's oldest polar bear Victoria is beginning to slow down a wee bit 🐻❄️💙 Our keepers noticed her struggling to keep up with her son Brodie, and she had stopped demonstrating some physical behaviours such as climbing on her back legs. The vet team were asked to check on her to see if they could help! It was great to welcome local MP Graham Leadbitter to Highland Wildlife Park recently 💙 During his visit, Graham had a tour of Scotland’s Wildlife Discovery Centre, visited our invertebrate conservation centre, and met some amazing animals including Koshi the snow leopard!

Earlier this year, alongside Alzheimer Scotland, our wildlife conservation charity visited residential homes to support those who face the challenges of dementia. It was great to welcome the Deputy First Minister and local constituent MSP Kate Forbes MSP to Highland Wildlife Park recently. Kate was an early supporter of our efforts to build Scotland’s Wildlife Discovery Centre, which we opened this summer after six years of development. During her visit, the DFM took a tour of the discovery centre, met some of our amazing animals and heard all about our efforts to help restore species including the wildcat, pine hoverflies and the medicinal leech.
