This prestigious honor confirms what our loyal customers already knew – our coffee is truly extraordinary. But what exactly makes this brew stand out? The judges revealed: “These are medium roast beans with an appetising cedar aroma. There is a darkish crema on a very delicately flavoured coffee with a light pure taste when drunk black; but it is dulled by the addition of milk. There is bright bitterness on the nose of the beans that is nicely nutty and tobacco-smoky. High fruit notes on the nose follow through onto the palate with mouthwatering happiness. It is bold and nutty and those nuts run nicely into milk with a tasty flavour. A delicious everyday coffee. This has depth and character, well balanced with biscuit and caramel and some stone fruit, all combining to give a pleasing warmth. With milk, this was even more pleasing – milk chocolate, fruit and nut perhaps. As we walk through various locations within the estate, each step unfolds the meticulous care and passion infused in every process - from natural and wet methods of production to rigorous quality checks at every stage: picking, milling, sorting, fermenting, drying, and grading. But, what truly makes The Bhadra Estate special is its heart. They take pride in their team of 200 dedicated souls who are the backbone of the estate. With policies that ensure minimum wage, health care benefits, incentive bonuses, accommodation, and educational facilities for their families, they are more than just an estate; there a family. Today, we had the privilege of dining with Jacob and some of the wonderful families who call Bhadra Estate their home. 🌿🐘 Day 7 in India and our coffee journey continues with a visit to the breathtaking Vanadurgi Estate, guided by the warm and welcoming Mr. Thammalhj, his wife, and son. Nestled amidst nature's bounty, this estate produces 19.5 metric tons of coffee per annum across 9.5 hectares. Here, robusta and arabica beans thrive under the shade, surrounded by pepper vines and ginger crops, creating a unique ecosystem. The robusta grows at 958 meters, while the arabica reaches up at 980 meters, showcasing the diverse altitudes within a single estate. But it's not just about coffee; the estate is alive with the gentle giants of the forest, elephants, who visit at night, and monkeys, who play among the trees by day. This harmonious blend of agriculture and wildlife makes Vanadurgi Estate a truly magical place. 🌱☕ Day 6 of our Indian odyssey and it's the heart of our journey: diving into the world of coffee at a local plantation and mill. Today, we're up close with the intricate process that brings us our beloved brew, with a focus on sustainability and ethical working conditions. 🌍💼 The morning took us to the picturesque Nirmal Plantation, owned by Mrs. Rachel Sebastian, nestled 833m above sea level. Here, robusta beans thrive across 25 hectares of Rainforest Alliance Certified Farm. We were captivated by the sustainable practices that produce the natural sun-dried Robusta Cherry, a testament to the harmony between agriculture and nature. 🌳☀️ The mill was equally enlightening. We witnessed the arrival of beans from local farmers, watched the meticulous milling process to remove debris, observed size grading, the removal of parchment, and finally, rebagging as green coffee. The dedication of the quality checkers to ensure only the perfect product reaches us was truly impressive. 🔍 Today wasn't just about understanding the process; it was about appreciating the hands and hearts behind every cup.
