SMEs confident of growth next year but challenges persist post Budget 💼📈 New research from alternative lender ThinCats has shown that SMEs are confident they will grow next year but that challenges persist post the October Budget. The research was conducted among over 2,000 UK small and medium-sized firms (SMEs) after the Chancellor's Autumn Statement on October 30. The firms put the three biggest challenges ahead as: The general economy (people and companies delaying decisions or not spending) according to 37% of those surveyed, followed by cost inflation (37%) and competition (29%). Green light for Frasers Group HQ plans on green belt 🟢🏢 Plans for a huge new headquarters for retail, sport and intellectual property giant Frasers Group on green belt land in Warwickshire have been given the go-ahead by Rugby Borough Council, it was reported. The proposed site near the village of Ansty for the campus style development spans almost 280 acres and plans reportedly include a 100-room hotel, swimming pool, warehouses, and research and development facilities. Frasers Group said it would boost jobs in the local borough by 15% and could boost the local economy by 10% and create facilities for the local community to enjoy. Bristol charity in festive funding boost from Bevan Brittan LLP 🪙🙌 A Bristol charity, which supports young homeless people in the city, has received a £25,000 donation this Christmas from commercial law firm Bevan Brittan. The latter has offices in the city, as well as in Birmingham, Leeds and London, and the Bristol charity 1625 Independent People is one of four organisations the law firm chose last year to support. It helps people who are homeless, leaving care, or at risk of homelessness via a range of activities. University of Gloucestershire's City Campus generates £23 million in social, economic and environmental benefits for community 🏫🪙 University of Gloucestershire’s City Campus development has generated a social value of £22.95 million for the local community by creating jobs, establishing new connections with business and the third sector, and respecting the environment during the build process. The ambitious project, delivered by Morgan Sindall Construction, in the heart of Gloucester city centre has exceeded key performance indicators (KPIs) across the board around measurements of its social, economic and environmental benefits – social value – ahead of its opening in 2025. New figures show City Campus has surpassed its target for delivering job opportunities for the unemployed (583 per cent completion against target); bettered the target for apprentice weeks delivered (554 per cent); outperformed the target for donating funds and materials to the local community (525 per cent); and donated more volunteering hours to charitable causes than its initial target (260 per cent).
