It’s brilliant that Nesta’s #VisitAHeatPump initiative has proven successful, with more than 600 visits already booked in it’s first six months. Increasing awareness of low carbon technologies and their benefits is important to improve consumer perception and encourage uptake. As part of elementalLONDON’s series featuring our members, Lucy Dixon spoke to Tony Gordon, Head of Product Management at Superglass Insulation. In the piece, Tony emphasises the importance of a long-term retrofit strategy from government, a fabric-first approach, the application of low carbon technologies and the need for EPC reform. After a fantastic day at the #GMGreenSummit, which saw the unveiling of its 5-Year Environmental Plan, we’ve been reflecting on the productive atmosphere in the Lowry Theatre. The event brought together a wide range of organisations offering services dedicated to retrofit and whole-house decarbonisation. The positive momentum carried through to the main theatre, where Miatta Fahnbulleh concluded the day with an engaging talk and a thoughtful discussion on the scale of retrofit and the importance of addressing fuel poverty, joined by Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham. We are proud to maintain its strong relationship with the Greater Manchester Combined Authority in tackling retrofit challenges and fuel poverty. Together with our members, we remain committed to supporting the devolved approach, ensuring the Single Flexible Pot of Funding is utilised effectively to upgrade homes in line with local priorities. Devolution provides an invaluable opportunity to accelerate progress on retrofit. Following the Green Summit, it is clear that Manchester is steadfast in its commitment to achieving these ambitious targets, and we are ready to play our part in supporting this vital work. #Manchester #GreenSummit #Retrofit Alex Moseley

We are responding to the Government's consultation on mid-scheme changes to the Energy Company Obligation scheme (ECO4) and Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS). The consultation will also cover the proposed introduction of a voluntary Pay-For-Performance mechanism. This stands to be a significant consultation, and to meet the UK's retrofit targets we welcome updates incentivising better quality retrofits, whilst also encouraging increased delivery of fabric measures like loft insulation at pace. We are pleased to see that the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government has released its long-awaited consultation on EPC reform. This important initiative will help both property owners and tenants gain a much clearer understanding of their building's true energy performance. This is fundamental to enabling a warm, healthy, and low-carbon building stock while ensuring the government can effectively support those living in the most fuel-poor homes. We are delighted to have our written evidence published as part of the Energy Security and Net Zero Committee's Inquiry into retrofitting homes for net zero. In our written evidence, we spoke about the scale of the retrofit challenge, and how factors such as low eligibility thresholds for government support schemes and the cost caps for current retrofit schemes may hinder the UK's target of retrofitting 27 million homes by 2050. If we are to meet the UK's retrofit targets, the SEA is calling for a reduction in electricity costs, greater recognition and support for alternative heating technologies within the energy transition, and a drive to increase the availability of a skilled workforce to deliver Net Zero.
