Can a room full of designers change the planet's trajectory? What a great morning so far....a room full of people who CAN design the future. Upskilling all designers to design FOR the planet is the enabler we need, (as almost everything needs redesigning for our future). Pleased to join the vital conversations at Design Council's #DesignforPlanet Festival produced by Stitch at The Manchester Metropolitan University. Fantastic line up of speakers like Tanya Popeau, Katie (Katharine) Hill, James Vaccaro, Martyn Evans Hon FRIBA, Patrick Grant and many others. Key takeaways so far ... 1. Endogenous growth cycles to drive efficiencies and make sustainable choices also pay off financially - James Vaccaro 2. Starting with the challenge, spend time really understanding this before you aim to design a solution - Tanya Popeau 3. bcorp a vital movement. Is a movement to change the economic system. But we can't change the world in time, company by company, it's not sufficient, given the number of companies globally so we also need to change the system - Katie (Katharine) Hill but it does demonstrate what is possible! 4. Challenge orthodoxy and when we succeed at that, then suddenly. if you believe in the power of design and you push it to the front of the table, that's the only way the solutions happen. Give the designer the room, and everyone will be proud they solved the problem creatively. - Martyn Evans Hon FRIBA 5. Just stop the fashion industry, everyone would be ok, and we'd save 10% of global carbon. - Patrick Grant Nice job Harriet, Minnie Moll, Alex McCorkindale, Matthew Burgess and all the DC team alongside Tyler Murphy, Liz, Artur, Krystian Jones and the rest of the Stitch team. Looking forward to the afternoon workshops!

Yesterday I went along to the #SustainableEventsShow with Charlotte Scotland and Mathias Berry which put people + planet on the agenda for event professionals. I enjoyed sharing a bit more about the story of Stitch - spawned from Connection Crew CIC in recognition of a market need for production services with social impact built-in. Alongside addressing environmental challenges within the event industry, Stitch supports people affected by homelessness to access living-wage work by generating crew work, creating career pathways and funding training places via Connection Crew. It was uplifting to meet the people pushing the industry to do better- and all learning from each other. Looking forward to the next one already, this year's obligatory cheesy pic of me included!! prestigeevents prod
