St Cuthbert’s Care is a charity working for the common good by enabling people to develop to their personal potential.
About us
St Cuthbert's Care is committed to helping improve the lives of some of the most vulnerable members of our communities, including people with profound disabilities, children in care, older people and those living on the margins of society. Firmly rooted in the Catholic faith, our charity always has and always will place people at the heart of its work. Our work is highly specialised and we often work in areas of high need that are either unattractive or considered to be too high risk for other providers to take on. To fulfil our Purpose, we engage and contract with a range of professional bodies and local authorities and work closely with churches, other charities and not-for-profit organisations as well as local communities. We are a Living Wage employer – the first regional charity in the North East, delivering adult social care as part of their work, to be accredited by the Living Wage Foundation.

Auton Sunderland achieves exceptional Ofsted rating Our residential children’s home in Sunderland has been rated Outstanding in all areas by Ofsted, placing it in the top 11% of children’s homes in England*. Following its recent Ofsted inspection, Auton Sunderland received a glowing report which highlighted many examples of good practice in the home, including how the team directly involved their young people in creating young-person-friendly guides to their home and how they are leading the way with their anti-bullying work, receiving recognition both locally and nationally. “Being in the top 11% of children’s homes in England is a brilliant achievement”, said Director of Care, Amanda. “I’m delighted to see the team’s hard work rewarded with Ofsted’s top rating. Their dedication to putting children and young people at the centre of everything they do is exceptional.” The young people at Auton Sunderland celebrated this incredible achievement by enjoying a delicious takeaway. * https://lnkd.in/eUDadXsT #Ofsted #Outstanding #ChildrensHome #Sunderland

We’re delighted to announce that St Catherine’s nursing home has become the first care home in Newcastle to receive the prestigious Gold Standard Framework (GSF) Hallmark Quality Award. The national accolade, often referred to as the ‘Kitemark’ for quality care, officially recognises that St Catherine’s residents not only live well but are supported with dignity in their final years. Achieving GSF accreditation involved a rigorous, independent inspection process where St Catherine’s scored an impressive 71 out of 75 points, reflecting the dedication and skill of the staff team to fully integrate 'gold standard' end-of-life care into daily practice. Dr Kathryn Mannix, renowned palliative care expert, author and trustee of St Cuthbert’s Care, praised the home’s achievement: “This is an incredible accolade for St Catherine’s and I’m proud to see our charity receive external validation for delivering such holistic, well-led care. I know from experience that talking about death and dying can be very difficult indeed, so it’s wonderful to see in the report that GSF has helped staff feel more at ease in approaching the subject. This, in turn, helps residents and their families feel calmer and more comfortable in expressing their wishes as death approaches.” Nicholas Gilbert, Chief Executive, added his congratulations to the team and said, “Achieving 71 out of 75 points on our first assessment is fantastic and shows the calibre of care we provide.” Members of the team collected the award at a prestigious ceremony in London and it now has pride of place in our home. #GoldStandardsFramework #QualityCare #EndOfLifeCare #Newcastle #CareHome #DignityInCare
