From Autumn 2025, apprenticeships will be given UCAS tariff points, allowing level 3 apprentices to use their UCAS points from their apprenticeships to apply for higher education courses. This move is another step towards parity for vocational and technical qualifications. ⬇️ https://bit.ly/3ORvlUz #skills #skillsforlife #skillsforthefuture #apprenticeships #FE #FurtherEducation #ucas

Collaborating to Create a World Class Skills and Apprenticeship System in the UK
About us
The St Martin’s Group is a unique membership organisation created to support the UK economy by fostering a sustainable, quality-focused and employer-led apprenticeship and skills system. Launched in 2018, the Group brings together stakeholders from some of the UK’s leading employers, training providers and awarding organisations from across all sectors and levels of qualification, which together are representative of the UK’s delivery infrastructure. Since 2021, with encouragement from key stakeholders, the Group has expanded its aims to include the wider adult funded skills market. These efforts will ensure the Group and its members are able to promote increasing collaboration and engagement in the sector for the benefit of all stakeholders. Collectively, the Group encompasses the views of employers, training providers and awarding organisations. Being representative of the UK skills delivery infrastructure, provides us with unique insight, expertise and knowledge to address the current and long-term issues and ambitions of the sector. Our aims include: • Being recognised and respected by policy makers and officials for providing evidence-based, practical solutions which promote sustainability, quality and growth in the employer-led skills market, and playing an important and highly collaborative role with governments in creating a world class employer-centric skills system. • Increasing participation in the workforce by raising the credibility and awareness of employer-centric skills programmes among potential learners and businesses. • Promoting increased engagement and collaboration between leaders of employers, their training providers, awarding organisations and other industry associations for the benefit of all stakeholders. Today, construction bodies have announced that there will be 32 “new skills hubs” to fill housebuilding skills gaps with “fast-track” training for up to 5,000 #apprentices each year. These hubs will be developed in parts of the country with highest house building need. These centres provide the opportunity for fast-tracked training, allowing apprentices to complete their course in 14 to 18 months, rather than 24 to 30 months usually taken to complete a construction apprenticeship. Training in these hubs could begin as soon as 12 months time. https://bit.ly/4fvjJCh ⬇️ #skills #skillsforlife #skillsforthefuture #apprenticeships #FE #FurtherEducation #skillstraining

🚀 Skills Bootcamps: A Bright Future Ahead? At the recent AELP conference, Kate Ridley-Moy from the Department for Education highlighted the future potential of Skills Bootcamps, despite funding uncertainties. With the reformed Growth and Skills Levy, the bootcamps could expand as a valuable training solution for upskilling across sectors. Their success showcases the importance of focused, short-term training for in-demand skills—a model many in the industry are eager to support and improve. https://bit.ly/40zrLFF #skills #skillsforlife #skillsforthefuture #apprenticeships #FE #FurtherEducation #skillsbootcamps

The #AutumnBudget this week was The Labour Party's first in fourteen years. It saw big rises in taxes for capital investment and public services. There was £300 million additional funding for further education to help develop young people’s skills and £40 million investment to transform the Apprenticeship Levy to the Growth and Skills Levy, but it is unclear whether this will come from the existing apprenticeship budget or will be new funding. It was also announced that the apprenticeship National Minimum Wage will be rising from £6.40 to £7.55 Read our round-up for all apprenticeship and further education budget announcements below. ⬇️ https://bit.ly/4hr9kcd

Earlier this month, we hosted panel events at both The Labour Party and The Conservative Party #partyconference to bring together key stakeholders and discuss what policies are needed to support the growing demand for apprenticeships. This was in support of our recent report ‘Overcoming Barriers to Opportunity: Stimulating Growth and Unlocking Supply in UK Apprenticeships. This report set out the steps the Government could take, including reforming parts of the system to drive efficiency at low cost, and supporting Skills England to bring cohesion and simplicity on policy across government departments with mandates for education, jobs, skills and productivity. Ahead of next week’s budget, the House of Lords Industry and Regulators committee has called for a skills tax credit to encourage employers to spend more money on training. The UK has lost the competitive advantage of employer-led workforce training, spending less than half the EU average. This change would help businesses invest more into their workforce and help improve skills training. ⬇️⬇️⬇️ https://bit.ly/3BS8jcK #skills #skillsforlife #skillsforthefuture #apprenticeships #FE #FurtherEducation #industrialstrategy

Earlier this month, we published our new report: “Overcoming barriers to opportunity; Stimulating Growth and Unlocking Supply in UK Apprenticeships,”. Our report looked into the support businesses will need to meet the growing demand for apprenticeships. Key recommendations for the government include: 👍 keep what works well for employers 🧓 maintain an inclusive, all-age, all-level system that is quality-focused and employer-led, but take the opportunity to transform parts that act as barriers 🤸 incorporate necessary flexibilities in programme design and funding rules 💰 encourage closer alignment of levy funds with the apprenticeship budget 💼 stimulate supply from SMEs, who play a significant role in provision. https://bit.ly/4dqNrqf #skills #skillsforlife #skillsforthefuture #apprenticeships #FE #FurtherEducation #earnandlearn #workforcedevelopment #apprenticeshipreform
