Today is International Day of People with Disabilities, or #IDPWD for short. To mark this important day, we’ve collaborated with our incredible community of users to create this video, highlighting simple yet impactful ways you can help build a more inclusive world. 🌍 Remember, small changes can make a huge difference for the disabled community. Here are a few tips to keep in mind: 🗣️ Always address the disabled person directly, rather than speaking solely to their companion. 🚫 Respect personal space - never touch someone’s mobility aid without permission. 🎓 Listen to our experiences. If you don’t understand something, take the time to research and learn - there’s so much out there to explore! 🙅♀️ If a disabled person declines your help, don’t take it personally - there’s likely a valid reason. 🤝 Recognise that disabled people are individuals. Ask questions, stay curious, and embrace that everyone is unique. 🛠️ Get to know the access needs of your family and friends. Awareness makes all the difference. 📣 Advocate for accessible spaces and technology at work and beyond. ⏳ Above all, be patient and truly listen. 🐾 A special reminder from Ava: guide dogs are professionals on the job—please don’t pet or distract them while they’re working! Special thanks to: @legally_disabled @wheelyfelix @hatirose @chronically_battling @mattpierri @aticcersguidetolife @charleegirlee @guidedogava @blondehistorian Together, let’s create a society where inclusion isn’t just a goal one day of the year, but a lived reality for everyone 365 days of the year 💙 💬 What advice would you add to this list? Share your thoughts in the comments below - we’d love to hear from you! #IDPWD2024 #InclusionMatters #AccessibilityForAll #Sociability

Can any business afford to ignore the needs of 24% of the population – the world’s largest minority group? This #PurpleTuesday, join Sociability in making accessibility information accessible to everyone. Download the Sociability app today to help disabled individuals find and share access information for venues in their area and beyond! https://qrco.de/igdownload At Sociability, we encourage businesses to openly share accessibility information. Whether you’re just starting on your accessibility journey or already doing well, your information can make a difference. Accessibility may not be perfect, but transparent communication empowers disabled people to decide what works best for them. Examples in action: - A disabled visitor can plan a quick visit to a café knowing there’s no accessible toilet, setting expectations around how long they can comfortably stay. - A manual wheelchair user checks a restaurant’s entrance and sees there’s a step. Now, they know they can't access it on their own, but can if they are visiting with friends who will assist in bumping up the step. Accessibility isn’t solved overnight, but communication is a step we can take today. YOU can help on this mission, by adding information to your favourite bars, cafes, restaurants, and pubs! Download Sociability to contribute, connect, and support those in your local community today. https://qrco.de/igdownload

On International #Stress Awareness Day, take this as a reminder to pause and put you first. Life doesn’t come with a pause button, and stress is something we all face—whether it’s work, relationships, or simply life itself. Here are 6 simple ways to manage it: 💭 Talk about how you feel – A problem shared is a problem halved. Talk to someone you trust, whether family, friends, or colleagues. Opening up lightens the load and makes you feel seen and supported. 🙏 #Gratitude journaling – #Reflect on the good. Find a calm space and jot down what you’re grateful for. Focusing on the positive helps shift your perspective and calms the mind. 🛁 Take time to unwind – Step back from the hustle. Take a walk, grab a coffee, or just sit in a quiet spot. Even 20 minutes away from your routine can recharge you and add clarity. 😮💨 Breathing exercises - help slow the heart and calm the mind. Stress can increase your breathing, so take a few deep breaths and centre yourself in the present. 🧁 Finding time for you – Find moments to do what you love. Watch a favourite show, pick up a hobby, or cook something special. Small joys bring big comfort in stressful times. 👩🦽 Keeping #active – Move your body, whether it’s light cardio, stretching, or playing a sport. Physical activity doesn’t just lift your mood—it makes you feel empowered and energised. Stress may feel overwhelming, but remember—you are in control. Take time to recharge, reset, and remind yourself that your well-being comes first 🧡 If you’re looking for more tips on this topic, we love the work that Mind does! #Sociability #Accessibility #StressAwareness #MentalHealth #Advice

Happy 4th Birthday to the Sociability team! 💃 At the end of last month, most of the team was able to make it into the office to celebrate with a party (more on that to come 😉 ) and most importantly a team FUDDLE! For those of you that don't know what a Fuddle is, it's a 'food huddle', where each of the team brings in their favourite food item and we come together over lunch to celebrate special occasions. It's been an amazing 4 years of growth, both internally, seeing the team expand, but also huge advancements in the app and lots of new features too! You may have noticed that we have had a new redesign recently, so be sure to check it out: https://lnkd.in/e6hDEawU Finally, it goes without saying, that all of this wouldn't have been possible without our amazing community of users, which is the driving force for all we do! Here's to the next birthday, and many more to come! #TechForGood #Accessibility #CompanyBirthday #SociabilityApp

We are really excited to share the news about our most recent collaboration with Foster + Partners - a research project at Imperial War Museums documenting Experiencing Architecture 🏛 We were joined by some of our community to understand the complexity and delicacy of achieving truly inclusive design. We were keen to investigate accessibility through a range of lenses: ✅ Compliance 🔎 Functionality 🤝 Inclusivity First and foremost, the research series sought to explore, investigate, and co-create a new approach to best practice around accessible and inclusive design. Informed by the lived experience of disabled people and their friends and family, and combined with Foster + Partners’ industry-leading design expertise, we’re excited at the potential to elevate accessible and inclusive design to the next level. A special thanks to our wonderful participants Amy Kavanagh, Isaac Harvey MBE, Christopher Laing and Saida Ahmed who shared insights from their unique perspectives. A final thank you to Suzan Ucmaklioglu and the team for making this happen! 📹 Watch the full video on YouTube: https://bit.ly/3YeYUVk 🔗 Read more about the project: https://bit.ly/4eYHaTZ
