Transforming the lives of children and young people through music and nurturing relationships.
About us
Sistema Scotland is a charity on a mission improve lives and strengthen communities through music and nurturing relationships. We do this through our transformational social change and music education programme, Big Noise, where the symphony orchestra becomes a community that supports children and young people to gain vital life skills such as confidence, resilience, team work, pride, creativity, and aspiration, and aims to strengthen community cohesion and tackle inequalities in some of Scotland’s most disadvantaged areas. Through music and nurturing relationships, from infancy to adulthood, Big Noise supports participants’ wellbeing and helps them reach their full potential. This enables them to become happy, healthy adults and lead successful and fulfilled lives. Big Noise programmes supporting a combined 3,500 children and young people are delivered in the targeted communities of Raploch and Fallin in Stirling, Govanhill in Glasgow, Douglas in Dundee, Torry in Aberdeen, and Wester Hailes in Edinburgh.

Over summer this year, young musicians from #BigNoiseGovanhill had the enormous pleasure of teaming up with award-winning photographer, Simon Murphy, to capture the streets of Govanhill in a National Galleries of Scotland outreach photography project 📸 As well as running workshops and accompanying participants on a photography excursion around Govanhill, Simon also captured these stunning portraits of our young musicians in his signature black and white style. The wider photography project was inspired by the work of historic photographer Thomas Annan, who recorded the lives and streets of Glasgow in the 1800s. 🔗 Find out more and see some of the creative outputs from the project here https://lnkd.in/eXGfe7ng © Simon Murphy - Annan Archive Outreach Project, a National Galleries of Scotland partnership with Sistema Scotland

We are delighted with the news in today's draft budget that The Scottish Government plan to continue their support of #BigNoise with an invaluable funding increase for 2025/26 🎶 “We are incredibly grateful to the Scottish Government for its steadfast support of Big Noise and this very welcome spending uplift in the draft budget. The charity’s work over the past 16 years has transformed lives throughout Scotland and this announcement ensures the critical work to tackle child poverty can continue, enabling young people and families to realise their potential.” - Benny Higgins, chair of Sistema Scotland

It's been a busy couple of weeks at #BigNoise with participants from our programmes in Douglas, Wester Hailes, and Govanhill performing on some of Scotland's biggest stages alongside members of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra (RSNO) in Dundee, Edinburgh, and Glasgow 🎶 It's always an incredible moment and a great confidence boost for our budding young musicians to have the opportunity to display their hard work and play side-by-side with the national orchestra in front of friends, family, and concert-goers in world class venues 🙌 Huge thanks again to our friends at RSNO 👏 📸 Check out these images from pre-concert rehearsals. 🔗 Read all about the concerts on our website here https://lnkd.in/eB9M5iap

"Big Noise was the one consistent thing in my life. I moved around different foster homes and had my own struggles, but Big Noise was a place I could go to escape from my home life and just focus on something that I was good at. I felt loved and safe. Big Noise changed my life." - Big Noise Alumni It's Care Experienced Week and this year's theme is 'Belonging & Connection' 🫶 We take enormous pride in creating a safe and welcoming space at #BigNoise, where all children and young people have the opportunity to form lasting connections with others and feel like they belong. We know that this can be particularly important for our care experienced participants, and as valued members of our communities, we make every effort to support them in their Big Noise journey with a tailored, flexible, and completely free programme. We look forward to taking part in the #LoveRally tomorrow to show our support for care experienced young people across Scotland! 💜 #CEW24 #KeepThePromise
