  • We are proud to be among the sponsors of the new Christmas Lights in Rochester. After securing donations from a number of businesses and organisations in the area, the Rochester Christmas Lights Legacy Fund (RCLLF) has not only been able to provide new lights for the High Street - the first in over 20 years - but plans to upgrade all lighting over the next few years. We have two pubs in the city centre – The Royal Crown and The Two Brewers – and our contribution has been used to fund one of three newly illuminated trees along the High Street. Our General Manager of The Royal Crown, Tom Crackett, is pictured with members of the RCLLF team and by the wooden plaque on the tree thanking Shepherd Neame for its support. Keith Donegan, Head of Sponsorships for RCLLF, said: “We would like to thank Shepherd Neame and all our incredible sponsors for making this project a reality and helping us brighten up Rochester for the festive season and beyond!” Find out more at https://lnkd.in/dKjH5Zbb #brewer #brewing #pubs #hospitalitynews #rochester #VisitMedway #Kent

  • If you’re looking for a festive tipple with a twist this Christmas, why not try our Neame Noël?   Simply combine our award-winning Grants Morella Cherry Brandy with a Kentish sparkling wine of your choice, and top with a cocktail cherry for the perfect serve.    It is the perfect time to enjoy the delicious drink, as this year marks the 250th anniversary of Grants Morella Cherry Brandy. First created by Grants Distillery in 1774 in Dover, it remained a family-owned Kent business until the 1960s when production ceased, but in 1990 Shepherd Neame acquired the brand and revived it. It was granted a Royal Warrant by His Majesty King Charles III, in his former role as the Prince of Wales, in 1998. Made with 100 per cent English cherries, it is blended with pure English grain spirit to produce a warming and delicious liqueur, perfect for this sparkling winter cocktail.    The Neame Noël recipe was created by Shepherd Neame’s late former president, Robert ‘Bobby’ Neame. His daughter Moray Neame, our Wines and Spirits Development Manager, said: “Grants Morella Cherry Brandy mixed with sparkling wine was always a favourite of my father, brought out for everyone to enjoy at family celebrations. He would be incredibly pleased to know that we are now sharing the recipe so more people can enjoy it. It is even more special now that we have so many fantastic locally produced Kentish sparkling wines to incorporate in the cocktail.” The delicious drink has been passed down the generations of the Neame family, who continue to raise a Neame Noël to Bobby every Christmas Day.   Moray added: “Our Neame Noël is not only a fantastic celebration of the fantastic produce available in our Kentish heartland, but also the perfect winter-warming choice for this Christmas, and we hope our customers will enjoy it.”    Grants Morella Cherry Brandy is available to buy now from our online shop at https://lnkd.in/gHYscbs or the Brewery Shop in Court Street, Faversham. Cheers! 🥂

  • Our historic Essex pub The Bellhouse was officially reopened on Tuesday, after a £300,000 transformation. The pub, packed with regulars, was officially reopened by our Chief Executive Jonathan Neame, with long-standing Essex County Cricket Club player Nick Browne pulling the first pint. Built as a hunting lodge around the 16th century, The Bellhouse in Leigh-on-Sea became part of the Shepherd Neame estate two years ago, and the recent works have been made with its original features in mind, while also creating a fresh, stylish feel. Work carried out during the three-week project included redecorating throughout with warm colours, re-upholstering the furniture in soft tartans and velvets and refurbishing the main bar, including refinishing all its classic brass fixtures and fittings. There is also now a new eye-catching swing sign outside featuring a real bell. Jonathan Neame also presented a donation of £1,000 to local charity the Jude Harvey Foundation, which will go towards heart screening for 14 to 35-year-olds to help prevent Young Sudden Cardiac Deaths (SCDs) in memory of 19-year-old Jude, from Southend, who died after suffering a cardiac arrest in 2023. The donation was presented to Jude’s Dad Gary and stepmum, Jude. Essex cricketer Nick Browne, who made his first-class debut in 2013 and will kick off his Testimonial Year in the New Year, then pulled the first official pint to applause. The spacious pub, with a team led by General Manager Athena Sigismondi has a large patio area and garden and open fires in the bar and restaurant areas for this time of year. Head Chef Simon Spooner and his team have also introduced a new menu celebrating the best local and seasonal produce. Cheers! • A new face is behind the bar at our waterside pub Pier Five in Chatham Maritime. Sunny Chowdhury, 33, has just been appointed as General Manager at the contemporary bar and kitchen, which boasts a beautiful marina setting on the River Medway. He brings years of hospitality experience to the role, after taking on his first part-time job in a Café Rouge at the age of 18 while studying in London. He was appointed Assistant Manager three years later, before moving on to work as a General Manager for The Restaurant Group in Rochester, then at Prezzo restaurants in Maidstone and Canterbury. Sunny said: “I had worked for Prezzo for five years, and was looking for a new challenge. I was very familiar with Shepherd Neame as I moved from Guildford to Gravesend with my family when I was 16 and have lived in Kent ever since, so I had visited lots of their sites over the years and enjoyed their range of food and drinks. “After working for big national companies which are very centrally-focused and dictate what you do, the prospect of working for an independent family business really appealed." Since starting at Pier Five, Sunny’s priority has been to work on showcasing everything on offer at the venue, with customers able to enjoy an extensive range of drinks, delicious menu and games including shuffleboard and darts. He said: “There really is something for everyone to enjoy at Pier Five, and we want more people to know about it! We have a wide selection of award-winning beers and lagers, along with premium wines, spirits and cocktails. Our kitchen team have also created a fantastic menu to suit all tastes, including gourmet burgers, homemade pizzas and our incredibly popular loaded fries. It is my intention to make Pier Five the most versatile place to visit.” Sunny has also been focused on developing his team since taking on the site. He added: “The thing that I love best about working as a leader in this industry is being able to support people and help them progress. We have a fantastic team at Pier Five and I’m really excited about what we can achieve going forwards." 🍻 Read more at https://snea.me/PierFive 🍻 Discover more about Careers with Shepherd Neame at https://lnkd.in/gGp7c63 #pubs #hospitality #medway #brewer #brewing

  • Shepherd Neame’s 600-year-old country inn The White Horse at Boughton-under-Blean has officially reopened its doors after experienced licensees, the Thompson family, breathed new life into it. The pub, which has seen its period features lovingly restored and enhanced to preserve its unique character since the Thompsons – who already run four hotels, bars and restaurants with the Faversham-based brewer – took over, now offers a warm, welcoming space that beautifully blends historic charm with modern luxury. With more than 40 years’ experience in the hospitality industry, Sharon and Gordon Thompson, along with all their grown-up children, run The Castle Hotel in Eynsford, Kent; The Abbey Hotel in Battle, East Sussex; The White Horse Inn in Maldon, Essex; The Woolpack Inn Chilham, and now, their fifth, The White Horse Inn. On Friday (November 29) its doors were officially reopened to all by Yvonne Neame, wife of the late President of Shepherd Neame, Robert “Bobby” Neame. The Thompsons, who won Pub of the Year in the 2024 Shepherd Neame Pub Awards, have reinstated the bar with traditional brass real ale pumps, a warming log burner and a deli counter showcasing locally produced cheeses. The inn’s 12 bedrooms are also receiving careful attention, and there is a new menu with a delicious array of dishes. There are also lots of upcoming plans for events and party nights. The family said: “We are excited to meet everyone and welcome them in and look forward to becoming part of the wonderful community around Boughton.” Pop in soon and try it for yourself! • The annual NITAs (National Innovation & Training Awards) winners were announced at a ceremony at Porchester Hall in London recently. Shepherd Neame had several apprenticeship nominations, and although we weren’t successful with those, the judges’ eye was caught by one – Sally Carter, who is currently our General Manager at The George Hotel in Cranbrook, and was nominated in the Hospitality Apprentice of the Year category. She was awarded a BII Workforce Hero Award, which are given to those who have gone above and beyond in the industry and showcase amazing talent in their role. The judges told her: "Our Workforce Hero award is designed to recognise those in our industry that go above and beyond in the hospitality sector, who show great potential and are a voice of inspiration in the community. We are so happy to be awarding you with this recognition.” Congratulations to Sally! 🎉 #brewer #brewery #pubs #hospitality #awardwinning #team

  • Award-winning licensee Amy Glenie has just taken on her second Shepherd Neame pub – and this time her husband will be behind the bar. Amy, 40, took on our Crowborough pub The Blue Anchor in 2018. It was her first time as a licensee, after managing a pub at nearby Mark Cross, and she has enjoyed incredible success, winning numerous accolades including two Beautiful South Awards and Shepherd Neame Pub of the Year in 2022. After six years at The Blue Anchor, Amy is now expanding her business to include a second East Sussex pub, The Royal Sovereign in Bexhill-on-Sea. The characterful local boasts a central location in the coastal town, opposite the train station and a five minute walk from the seafront.   Her husband Jordan Foster had been supporting her as Head Chef at the Blue Anchor, but is now moving over to a front of house role managing The Royal Sovereign.  The couple took on the pub last month, and have redecorated throughout to offer a lighter, stylish feel, repainting and introducing new décor and lighting. They have converted part of the ground floor bar to create a galley kitchen, and are now serving a delicious menu of contemporary light bites. In the new year they also plan to reopen the unused first floor space as a restaurant. Amy added: “Everyone in the town has been incredibly welcoming since we took on The Royal Sovereign. We have so many plans for the pub, and are really excited about what we can achieve.” Our Director of Tenanted Pub Operations Greg Wallis said: “We are delighted that Amy and Jordan have taken on a second pub with us. They have done a fantastic job at The Blue Anchor, and we look forward to supporting them as they bring their exciting vision for The Royal Sovereign to life.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eRTj_KCs Find out more about running a pub with Shepherd Neame at https://lnkd.in/eJBEuT3r 🍻 #hospitalitynews #pubs #brewer #brewery #hospitality #refurbishment

At Shepherd Neame, we're pulling out all the stops to ensure this festive season is one to celebrate at home and in our pubs. Not only will the seasonal special Christmas Ale be returning, but this year we have also created a limited edition mini version of the Christmas Ale bottles in the shape of a Christmas tree decoration! The 8cm-high decoration is an exact replica of its big brother bottled version, right down to the full ingredients list on its back. It is on sale in our Brewery shop, costing £3.95, and may also be adorning many pub Christmas trees this year. Christmas Ale will also be available on draught in the final week of November and is available in bottles now, online and in the Brewery shop. And for a limited period, customers can buy 12 bottles of Christmas Ale from Shepherd Neame’s online shop and a Christmas tree bottle decoration for a total of just £40. And if you thought Christmas Ale was warming enough, think again, as we will also have Christmas Ale socks to warm your toes this winter. The branded yellow and red socks, in size 4 to 7, will be on sale for £8 in our Brewery shop in the coming weeks and will also be available in selected Shepherd Neame managed houses this festive season (while socks last). Don’t forget our yuletide tours run on selected dates from Wednesday, December 4 until Saturday, December 21 and visitors receive a boxed Christmas Ale to take home. Tours cost £25 per person. • Our traditional pub in Wilmington, The Horse and Groom has undergone a stunning renovation both inside and out. The project, which cost £120,000 and took just over a week, is a boost for the large community pub in the heart of Wilmington as it is its first since Shepherd Neame took on the site six years ago. It has been given a refreshing green colour scheme inside, and its furniture has been renovated and reupholstered, as well as the wooden floor, which has been re-sanded and rejuvenated. There are fresh new images on the walls, while outside the building has had a fresh lick of paint and will soon have its first Shepherd Neame swing sign outside. General Manager Tina Hunt, who has run the pub for five years, said: “It is lovely. Firstly, we have got back into a building which we are proud of – It is a nicer, fresher environment for us to be working in. It is brighter, sharper, and a bit more contemporary we can show it off now.” She added: “We want to keep the rustic community feel here. The designers have been sensitive to what we represent as a community business, which is very important to us.” Tina said feedback from customers had already been positive, along with the launch of a new menu, overseen by Head Chef Paul Hills, who has been with the company for 20 years and joined the Horse and Groom from the Manor Farm Barn a year ago. The pub, which is dog friendly in its bar and garden, is open for breakfast from 9am Monday to Saturday, and at 11.30am on Sundays for its popular Sunday roasts. There is also a spacious car park, which has been resurfaced. Pop in soon to see the transformation! #brewer #brewery #hospitality #pubs #refurbishment
