Our Markets and Channel Manager, Hayley Joseph, recently sat down with Emily Coates, Director of Tech Recruits, to share her unique journey into the security world. From balancing life as a working mum and climbing the career ladder, to volunteering on the radio and transitioning into sales, Hayley dives into what first drew her to security, why she stayed, and what makes the industry so welcoming - and so hard to leave! Reflecting on what inspired her to get started, Hayley shared: “I heard Robin present, and I thought, ‘That’s insane, wow.’ In my next conversation with him, I flippantly said, ‘You should hire me,’ and here I am - and very happy to be so.” And when asked about her most rewarding experience, she added: “The first thing that springs to mind is how welcoming the industry really is. I think it’s probably why so many people never seem to leave. Today marks the 2nd anniversary of the official opening of the Secure Logiq Dubai office! 🎉🥳 While we’ve been active in the region for over 10 years, it was our participation at Intersec Expo Dubai 2021 that solidified the decision to open a regional office. It has been a rollercoaster of a journey - learning new cultures and business practices and designing solutions for a very different market. Gained Ministry of Interior (MOI) approval for the Secure Logiq range. 🥇 Won our first-ever Intersec Award: Security Sustainability Product/Service of the Year for offsetting the carbon footprint of the electronic security manufacturing sector. 🔌 Installed demonstration equipment powering Axis and Milestone's regional experience centres. 🥳 Precious was awarded Intrapreneur of the Year at TSE's 2024 Security & Safety Entrepreneur Awards for her contribution to Secure Logiq's spectacular growth in the region. 💵 Completed our first multi-million dollar smart cities project in Iraq. 💻 Secured the largest Seagate SAN storage solution supplied into the security industry ever (18 Petabytes). 💧 Consumed 1270 litres of bottled water, 432 Tube journeys, 48 wet shaves and 8 bowties. After moving into our new HQ in Crawley, UK, we needed a high security integrated electronic security system to protect the staff, stock and premises. That's where 360 Vision Technology Ltd, TDSi and one of our Technology Partners Hanwha Vision Europe came in. We selected one of our longest standing trusted customers, AlertSystems Ltd to design a state-of-the-art integrated system utilising 360 Vision ruggedised domes and a range of Hanwha cameras as the CCTV element, all running on Hanwha Wave and of course an Enterprise Secure Logiq server. Edge analytics and TDSI integration into the VMS has created an intelligent automated solution designed to deter and detect all forms of crime or health and safety issues on site. When I started this mission, one of the principle drivers was a journey of discovery to establish where on ‘the scale’ I was. With a week left of my commitment I wanted to share some observations with the plethora of people who have supported me along the way on and off linkedin. Am I an alcoholic? Am I drink dependant? Addiction is a complex subject however the honest answer is that I think I have proved to myself that I had established a habit, a terrible, daily habit much the same as eating and sleeping. What I have learned is / it was a disruptive, even destructive habit that ate away at my self-confidence, my motivation, my liver and my bank balance and the honest truth is that whilst I was drinking every night, I was getting no joy whatsoever from the experience, maybe because it had become part of the norm, maybe because I was so regular that I had built up a tolerance to my daily cans of cider. There was no special occasion and when there was a special occasion it was already the norm for me so I didn’t get the additional buzz and social lubrication occasional or normal drinkers get when they treat themselves to a drink, my Dopamine levels were already flatlining and this regularity meant that I never really got hangovers either – one of the reasons so many people only drink on occasions. Touch wood, I have had a lucky escape as despite 30 plus years of very regular drinking this experiment was not driven by a health condition or doctors recommendation, just a desire to improve my mental state and my lifestyle. I am sure you are all dying to know where I am at 5 weeks into my commitment? Well, I am fitter, healthier, happier, my mind is clearer, I get loads more done and I am more motivated. I look and feel younger and I have more energy. As to the future I think I am going to leave my options open. I don’t have a wild party planned for when the clock bongs midnight at the end of Halloween. In the last 5 weeks I have put myself through every trigger point that occurs in my lifestyle from festivals, gigs, weekends away, work events and long train journeys and have survived, indeed thrived without alcohol. I have discovered that there are many alcohol free alternatives to help me conform the ‘social norm’ without having to explain myself, especially to those that know the previous Robin. One thing I can reveal from my experience is that I won’t be going back to drinking every night at home on my own. It is a completely pointless exercise and I have conditioned my mind to accept that. I want to thank you all for your support and for backing such a great charity and will finish my post with one more shameless plug of Thatchers Cider Company Ltd delicious Zero percent, crisp and refreshing cider in the vain hope that they will rocket me to the top of the Sober October leaderboard as a mark of their commitment to sensible drinking and to recompense all of the free marketing (and increase in trade from me personally) over the past few weeks
