About us

Save the Children Save the Children is the world's leading independent organisation for children. We work in around 120 countries. Our vision is to live in a world in which every child attains the right to survival, protection, development and participation. Last year Save the Children's programmes and campaigns reached more than 55 million children directly around the world, through our and our partners' work. We work to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives. Across all of our work, we pursue several core values: accountability, ambition, collaboration, creativity and integrity.

  • In 2024, child arrivals to Greece have more than doubled, marking a significant increase in a year when overall arrivals have already hit a five-year high⚠️ These children are fleeing dire humanitarian crises, only to find themselves trapped in yet another crisis. In remote refugee camps, the situation is alarming: ⚠️ Lack of protection services ⚠️ Absence of education opportunities ⚠️ Pests like cockroaches ⚠️ Poor food quality These children, already vulnerable, deserve better. The EU and Greek authorities have a moral and legal obligation to act urgently to improve conditions in the camps. They must ensure these children have access to safety, adequate services, and the dignity they deserve. • In 24 hours at least 52 people, including children, have reportedly been killed by Israeli airstrikes on UN schools-turned-shelters in #Gaza. "These unconscionable attacks show there’s no safe place for children & their families in Gaza", Jeremy Stoner, Save the Children Interim Regional Director – Middle East, North Africa and Eastern Europe. An immediate and definitive ceasefire is the only way to save lives in Gaza and end grave violations of children’s rights. There is no alternative. • For Syrians everywhere—inside and outside the country—there’s a shared hope for a brighter future, but there’s still much work ahead. Following 14 years of conflict, economic turmoil and the ongoing impacts of last year’s devastating earthquake, humanitarian needs have never been higher. Over 16.7 million people are in need of assistance, including 7.5 million children⚠️ We are committed to continuing to support the lives and rights of children and families in Syria to help pave the way for a brighter, prosperous future. As the situation continues to evolve over the coming days and weeks, we call for all civilians to be protected and for international humanitarian law to be upheld. Find out more about what the recent developments in Syria mean for children➡️ https://lnkd.in/etexxKw6

  • Every year, Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Day reminds us of a critical truth: health is a human right, not a privilege ❤️ Yet millions are forced into poverty annually due to out-of-pocket health costs ⚠️   This year’s theme, "Health: It’s on the government," underscores the duty of governments to ensure this right. That's why today we are spotlighting Ethiopia’s Afar region, where we’re advocating for increased health and nutrition budgets to improve lives and ensure no one has to choose between their health and livelihood.   Learn more in our case study ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gXnjY4En   Together, we can make #UHC a reality🌍💙 #HealthForAll #UHC2030

  • The recent developments in #Syria have created a historic turning point for children and their families, sparking optimism that their future will be defined by peace and opportunity❤️ But nearly 14 years of conflict have left the country shattered, and the needs of children have never been greater. They have grown up knowing nothing but conflict and displacement. 16.7 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance, with nearly half of them being children. This is the highest number of people in need since the beginning of the crisis. Save the Children has been working in Syria since 2012, providing lifesaving assistance to children and their families. • The climate crisis threatens the health of 2.4 billion children, driving malnutrition, disease outbreaks, and mental health challenges ⚠️ Vulnerable communities are disproportionately impacted, exacerbating inequalities. Bold, coordinated action is essential—investing in climate-resilient health systems, closing adaptation finance gaps, and prioritizing child-sensitive policies. Our new Policy Brief "Prioritising Children's Health Amidst the Climate Crisis," emphasizes how to protect the health and future of children amidst the climate crisis 👶 Why does it matter? Children, who contribute the least to climate change, are the most affected. Addressing this crisis requires urgent, inclusive, and equitable measures to safeguard their futures. 🌟 What Can You Learn from our new brief? Discover policies, strategies and transformative solutions—like child-centered adaptation plans and scalable financing models—that empower policymakers, organizations, and civil society organisations to create a safer, healthier world for children. Read the brief, executive summary and call to action here. These resources are available in English, French, Spanish, Arabic and soon as well in Portuguese👉 https://lnkd.in/eKQdZHbi Together we must ensure children’s health takes center stage in climate action. • Vepaia, a young climate activist from Vanuatu, took the stand this week at the International Court of Justice (ICJ)🌍 Inspired by her mother – the first female Ni-Vanuatu judge – and her grandmother – a poet and gender equality advocate – Vepaia campaigns for the entwined goals of gender equality and climate justice. And this week, she took her fight to The Hague. At the ICJ, she advocated for the inclusion of children’s rights in the climate justice debate and called states to recognise their obligation to protect future generations👬❤️ Vepaia said: "I really hope that the work I do now – the messages I'm trying to spread – can have an impact" Save the Children supported and trained Vepaia through the NextGen programme - which provides participants with the skills to research, communicate, and meaningfully engage in national, regional and global discussions on climate resilience from a child rights perspective Read to find out more about Vepaia, the impact of the #ClimateCrisis on her community and her journey to the ICJ➡️ https://lnkd.in/gj2diqbF #climatejustice #climateaction #SaveTomorrow

  • Today too many children around the world face the ever growing threat of hunger⚠️ Conflict, climate change and economic instability are leaving nutritious food out of reach for millions, threatening the development and survival of 153 million children. This is especially concerning when you learn the reality of how hunger affects a child's body💔 But there is hope. Malnutrition is treatable and preventable. And low-cost interventions that can save children's lives are readily available. Last year, we supported over 35 million children with hunger-related interventions. We won't stop now. Hunger is not a lost cause. We must deliver long term solutions and system changes to stop this hunger crisis from recurring. #hunger
