“We support families to just be families at times like Christmas. By helping patients manage symptoms, we take the pressure off so that relatives don’t have to also be carers. They can simply enjoy being with their loved ones. “We love making Christmas special for each and every person we look after at our hospice who would like to celebrate. We know how important creating these memories is for them and their families." Amy Butler, Senior Team Hospice Nurse, sums up what Christmas is all about for our staff working hard on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. We're thinking of everyone here at our hospice and caring for people in the place they call home. 💜 #Harrogate #Hospice #Christmas

Harrogate District's local hospice
About us
We are not simply one organisation, but thousands of supporters, professionals, volunteers, groups and individuals who, together, make up a remarkable community of action. This community – known locally as Saint Michael’s – exists to ensure local people affected by terminal illness across the Harrogate district can access high quality, personalised care. Saint Michael’s values choice, autonomy and seeks to empower those in need of our services. This means offering support where and when it matters most. We do this by offering a range of services from our Hornbeam Park-based hospice, and out in the community in people’s own homes. We are also passionate about working in partnership to enable others to offer hospice-standard care. We are responsive to the needs of people with a variety of terminal illnesses, including heart failure, respiratory illnesses and neurological conditions, as well as cancer. We believe everyone should get care that is personalised and responsive to their individual needs, regardless of their age, ethnic background, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability or social circumstances. We know that without the hospice, local people and their families could be left to face the complex issues and forgotten challenges of terminal illness alone. We exist to ensure a better future is possible. North Yorkshire Hospice Care is a registered charity in England and Wales (518905) with a family of services operating as Herriot Hospice Homecare, Just ‘B’, Saint Michael’s Hospice and Talking Spaces. North Yorkshire Hospice Care is a company limited by guarantee, registered in England and Wales (2121179). Registered address Crimple House, Hornbeam Park Avenue, Harrogate, HG2 8NA.

Yesterday’s announcement from the Government of a £100m funding package for hospices over the next two years is great news. We warmly welcome this investment into our sector from the Government, providing a much-needed cash injection, but also recognition of the vital care hospices provide. We have been heard and responded to and the listening does not stop there. This level of investment also provides a key step in moving all hospice care to a fairer and sustainable level of funding, and we look forward to that conversation and action continuing next year.
Hospice UK welcomes today's announcement by the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care of additional support for hospices. Hospices are ready to do all we can in the coming years to make sure everyone gets the care and support they need at the end of life. Our inpatient team are helping patients staying with us create special Christmas memories with their loved ones. To bring some festive spirit and smiles to those who wish to celebrate, our nurses and healthcare assistants have been donning Christmas socks! Which festive traditions do you have with your team? We’ll be here right through the festive season, both on our inpatient unit and out in the Harrogate district, to make sure local people facing terminal illness get the care they need and deserve. If you wish to support the team this Christmas, why not take a look at our business support page: https://lnkd.in/e6BKaRc4 #Christmas #Hospice #Harrogate

This year our fundraising team will be adding a sustainable twist to their Secret Santa and will be only picking their gifts from one of our Saint Michael's shops. Last week our fundraising team picked their Secret Santa name. Now they are out browsing our Saint Michael's shops to find the perfect gift.🎁 Not only does this help raise vital funds for the hospice, but it also embraces sustainability by giving gifts a second life with someone new. Why not ask your team to make your Secret Santa sustainable and help support local people and their families this Christmas?🎄 #SustainableChristmas #SecretSanta #CharityShops

I was proud to contribute this piece for Hospice UK, focusing on the integration of specialist bereavement and emotional wellbeing support service Just 'B' as part of our family of services with Herriot Hospice Homecare and Saint Michael's Hospice. I've highlighted the importance of these services in bringing this vital support to our communities; as well as the strategic opportunities they've given our charity, particularly in recent years. Read more via the article below.
“We stand ready to support wider system partners in opening up specialist bereavement support to our communities.” Tony Collins OBE of Herriot Hospice Homecare and Saint Michael's Hospice shares how Just ‘B’ has pioneered a model of bereavement and mental health support with hospice services, and the enormous impact it’s had on local communities – supporting thousands of people when they most need it. First come, first served! This fabulous event at Rudding Park has almost sold out: we only have 8 tickets left! Would you like to join us? It would be lovely to have you there. Please email [email protected] to enquire. Thank you for your support🙏
We would love to see your team join us at our Annual Charity Carol Service & Dinner at Rudding Park on Monday 16th December, starting at 7pm. A firm favourite in the hospice calendar for many years now, this event is only made possible through the generosity of the Mackaness family. It is the perfect way to step into Christmas. The evening begins with a carol service in Rudding’s chapel, led by Revd Dr Alan Garrow of St Peter’s Church, with his choir providing the music, conducted by John Longstaff. We are delighted that hospice ambassador, Peter Wright, The Yorkshire Vet will be joining us for the event to be our guest reader. After the service, guests will enjoy drinks in the hotel, before being called through to the Radcliffe Room for a delicious three course festive dinner. Your Harrogate’s Nick Hancock will be our MC for the evening and he will invite you to take part in the raffle, auction and Tree of Life, and raise a glass to the continued work of the hospice. You can book through our website at https://loom.ly/DteoIxo We do hope you can join us at this lovely occasion.

We want to say a huge thank you to Harrogate and District Round Table for choosing us to be their charity partner for The Stray Bonfire and Firework night.🎆 The event raised an amazing £6,000 for Saint Michael's Hospice, which will help us to continue our work supporting those affected by terminal illness in the Harrogate district.💜
