We enjoyed a visit from the #MakeItVisible team from the The Lighthouse Charity this morning. Hosted by the team based at our Mere project, Rob and Ray from the charity shared their personal experiences of mental health with Russell WBHO staff and sub-contractors. The attendees found the session extremely informative, heartfelt and empowering. It's invaluable what the charity does in terms of emotional, physical and financial wellbeing of construction workers and their families. Thanks again to Rob and Ray for their time. Remember you're not alone - if you're struggling, help is here 💚 #construction #mentalhealth

Russell WBHO and Blue Ocean dig deep to help local animal charity! 😸 🐰 Supporting local charities is important to us, so we chose the The Society for Abandoned Animals for our staff volunteer day. We had a brilliant day building a shelter for one of the dog fields and sprucing up the memorial garden. It was a bonus and absolute privilege getting to socialise with the animals under the charity's tender loving care! We’re proud to be playing a part in adding to the impressive facilities and innovation at STFC’s Daresbury campus. We’re on track to complete the construction of a new £30m supercomputing centre at Daresbury by early 2025. The 33,000 sq ft building will house two data halls requiring an atmosphere maintained at 21-24 degrees. For further updates on the project and info on our data centre expertise visit: https://lnkd.in/esMHgg89 https://lnkd.in/eqmm2PUe
“One of the north’s best kept secrets”. That’s how the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) Campus at #Daresbury was described to me last week by a member of NWBLT’s Innovation and Growth Group. Specialising in #healthtech, #digital and #space and with over 2,000 people now employed on site by STFC and the 150+ tech businesses located there, Daresbury is a key component of the North’s science and innovation landscape. There is an impressive range of facilities and expertise on site – including one of the fastest ‘super computers’ in the UK which can process FOUR TRILLION calculations per second. A newer, faster computer capable of 100 trillion calculations per second will be commissioned later in 2024. Originally opened in 1962 as the Daresbury Nuclear Physics Laboratory, Daresbury Laboratory carries out research in fields such as accelerator science, bio-medicine, physics, chemistry, materials, engineering, and computational science. We are immensely grateful to Massimo Noro, Katherine Royse, Francis Lee, Geeth de Mel (IBM) and colleagues for hosting our Innovation and Growth Group meeting last week and for arranging a tour of some of the key facilities on site. These included the Hartree National Centre for Digital Innovation which is supporting businesses to explore and adopt AI and machine learning (amongst other stuff), the amazing Electron Hall with its cutting edge particle accelerators and the Campus Technology Hub where much of STFC’s support for SME’s in the region is delivered. Thanks also to Tom Jones of PsiQuantum for his time in explaining the work they are progressing to develop the world’s first “useful” quantum computer. A fascinating afternoon of discovery and learning!
