Paul Hamlyn Foundation
Philanthropy
Independent funder focusing on the Arts, Young people, Education & Learning and Migration, across the UK and in India.
About us
Paul Hamlyn Foundation was established by Paul Hamlyn in 1987. Upon his death in 2001, he left most of his estate to the Foundation, creating one of the largest grant-making foundations in the UK. Our mission is to help people overcome disadvantage and lack of opportunity, so that they can realise their potential and enjoy fulfilling and creative lives. We have a particular interest in supporting young people and a strong belief in the importance of the arts. We launched our current UK strategy in June 2015. It is built around six strategic priorities, where we want to see change over the coming years: • Support imaginative people to nurture exciting ideas • Widen access and participation in the arts • Improve people’s education and learning through the arts • Show that the arts make a difference to people’s lives • Support the development and growth of organisations investing in young people and positive change • Improve support for young people who migrate, and strengthen integration so that communities can live well together Further information on our activities can be found at www.phf.org.uk Follow us on Twitter using @phf_uk and @phf_india

✨ Reflections on Funding Racial Justice ✨ At Paul Hamlyn Foundation, we are deeply committed to being an anti-racist organisation. Each year, we analyse our grant-making to understand how much of our funding supports organisations and projects led by and for communities experiencing racial inequity. Today we’re sharing the fourth edition of our Racial Justice Audit, developed by the Funders for Race Equality Alliance. This report reflects on our 2023/24 grant-making and considers the changes we have made and where we can do more to support racial justice. ✨Read the Racial Justice Audit: https://lnkd.in/ec5KKaWg In this new blog, our Director of Grants, Abdou Sidibe, reflects on the findings of our most recent racial justice audit and discusses the importance of supporting work that recognises the impact of intersecting systems of oppression. ✨Read the blog: https://lnkd.in/eV5g3C63 #RacialJustice #Equity #GrantMaking

Here's a spotlight on just a few of the incredible organisations we fund: 💪 The 4Front Project Empowering those harmed by the criminal justice system to lead a movement for racial equity and healing, 4Front is transforming how society supports communities affected by violence. 🗨️ “Racial inequity drives violence. The criminal justice system drives violence. We are building a powerful youth-led movement centred on healing rather than punishment.” #ImagineChange #YouthForJustice #HealingToThe4FRONT 🌟 Coventry Youth Activists (CYA) CYA is a youth-led disability campaign group fighting to give young disabled people a voice, tackle barriers, and end online discrimination. They’re working with Meta and OFCOM to make online spaces safer for young disabled people. #DigitalSafety #DisabilityAwareness #DisabilityActivism 💜 West End Women and Girls Centre As the only open-access women and girls centre in Newcastle, they mobilise young women with lived experiences of gender inequality to drive change. Their campaigns influence policy and legislation to advance gender equality in the North East. 📣 Don’t miss the Reclaim the Night march on 30th November – a powerful evening of solidarity and empowerment! #GenderEquality #ReclaimTheNight 🚀 We Belong Led by young migrants, We Belong campaigns for the rights of young people affected by the UK immigration system and an end to the hostile environment. Today, they’re part of My Life My Say’s Next Gen Conference'24, collaborating with politicians, cultural figures, and activists to create innovative solutions for youth challenges. #YouthVoices ✊ Level Up A feminist community campaigning for gender justice, Level Up centres the voices of women, trans, and non-binary people to tackle bodily and systemic violence. 🌟 DfE Curriculum & Assessment Review – Advocating for Equitable Classrooms 🌟 At Paul Hamlyn Foundation, we support so many organisations that are working to create equitable classrooms where all children can learn and thrive. Through our Teacher Development Fund (TDF) and Arts-based Learning Fund, we support innovative arts-based learning and the transformative role of the arts in education. As the government reviews England’s curriculum with an aim to broaden access to music, art, sport, and drama, we’re pleased to contribute our insights and advocate for a refreshed approach that centres the arts in education. In her latest blog, Professor Teresa Cremin, Chair of the TDF Advisory Group, reflects on this pivotal moment. She highlights the opportunity to re-value the arts and foster classrooms that nurture creativity, inclusion and growth for every learner. 🖋️ Teresa writes: “In many ways, education is a story of hope. While over the decades, the characters, settings, and plots differ, the desire of educators to make a difference remains a persistent theme, alongside a collective determination to enable all learners to grow and thrive… Together, we can help shape the next chapter of this story of hope.” 🔗 Read Teresa’s blog – Hope and a Call to Action: https://lnkd.in/eyWdDm-y ✨ Let’s work together to advocate for equitable classrooms where all children can learn and thrive #ArtsEducation #EquitableClassrooms #TeacherDevelopment #CurriculumReview #EducationMatters #PaulHamlynFoundation 📷 James Mulkeen, darts

🎉Celebrating 30 Years of Awards for Artists!🎉 Tonight, we mark a major milestone: the 30th anniversary of Awards for Artists, and we’re thrilled to introduce the 2024 recipients! 🎉 Each year, we present 10 Awards – 5 for visual artists and 5 for composers. The awards are made at a timely moment in their careers, to support their creative practice and to contribute to their personal and professional growth. This year, we’ve increased the award amount from £65,000 to £75,000 each, reflecting our strong belief in the value of artists and their vital contribution to society. And, as always, the funding is no-strings-attached – artists are free to use the money as they see fit. Since 1994, we’ve proudly supported 357 artists with over £11 million.
