We advance children's rights and equality for girls around the world.
About us
Plan International is an independent development and humanitarian organisation that advances children's rights and equality for girls. We believe in the power and potential of every child, but know this is often suppressed by poverty, violence, exclusion and discrimination. And it is girls who are most affected. Working with children, young people, supporters and partners, we strive for a just world, tackling the root causes of the challenges girls and vulnerable children face. We support children's rights from birth to adulthood and we enable children to prepare for and respond to crises and adversity. We drive changes in practice and policy at local, national and global levels using our reach, experience and knowledge. For over 85 years, we have rallied other determined optimists to transform the lives of all children in more than 80 countries. We won't stop until we are all equal.

2024 was a difficult year with new and ongoing conflicts and crises affecting children, young people and their communities worldwide. At Plan International, we were inspired to see young people continue to strive for a better world. Here are 6 great moments for girls in 2024 👇🏽 📚 - On International Women’s Day, Aseel, 22, from Jordan demanded a world with better, safer education. 📢 - Despite living through devastating conflict, girls from Ukraine spoke out about the realities of war and how it affects their mental health, in a display of impressive resilience. 🤝🏿 - In May, young activists produced the Girls’ Pact for the Future with clear and actionable recommendations for policymakers to achieve #GenderEquality 🩸 - For Menstrual Health Day, girls got together with family members to discuss all things relating to periods and help smash the stigma and prejudices that still surround menstruation to this day. ❤️ -On International Day of the Girl, girls and their supporters shared heart selfies on social media as a global show of solidarity for young people across the world affected by conflict 💪🏽 - In November, a group of youth delegates went to the #SummitOfTheFuture to demand progress on the issues that affect young people most around the world – from leadership opportunities to climate change. We end 2024 with a message of solidarity to the girls around the world who will continue to speak out and demand change over the next year. https://lnkd.in/eTzM8nUq

“Some people don’t believe in female education, but we are trying our best to convince them that it’s important. Having more female teachers shows that women can do everything.” says Eunice. https://lnkd.in/e9SDYsF2

Since 2018, there has been hard-won progress in girls’ being recognised as agents of social change and leaders. Earlier this year, at #SummitOfTheFuture, youth advocates Amelie and Isabella engaged with representatives to ensure that decisions taken respond to the needs of future generations 💪🏽

Girls' rights = human rights. It's that simple ❤️ #HumanRightsDay #16DOA

Our new research shows there has been hard-won progress with girls’ rights at the United Nations. However, this advancement remains uneven, accompanied with the rising backlash towards #GenderEquality threatening the progress made. This is particularly visible regarding the promotion of comprehensive sexuality education and the agency of girls, and their full and meaningful participation. This #HumanRightsDay, we’re calling on decision-makers to 👇🏾 📢 Champion girls’ rights and prioritise the rights of girls in all their diversity 👧🏾 Address the double burden of discrimination of age and gender faced by girls ❤️ Put girls’ leadership and agency at the centre of policy making 🚫 Counter rising anti-rights agendas https://lnkd.in/eMvDhFvA
