Acting both as an aggregator and, in certain circumstances as a subscription market, we utilize the classic retail-wholesale framework so as to provide both Lloyd’s Syndicates and global reinsurers with an alternative capacity or capital from areas of the world that have little previous exposure to CAT retrocession written on a Worldwide basis, despite having the necessary infrastructure in place to enter the market. Likewise for the professional reinsurers from the region we offer transparent and effective access to the catastrophic reinsurance market, to which they do not otherwise have access either due to a lack of financial strength, local sovereign rating, or small individual capacities. This is extended to unique possibilities for non-insurance investors as banks, fund managers and other institutional investors to capitalize in the area which is well developed now and almost not correlated to economical turmoil. Having strategic arrangements with the largest international banks we provide comprehensive turnkey solutions for securing successful deals in a convenient and compliant pro-cess for both reinsurance buyers and capacity providers.

In June this year, I stumbled upon The Fundamentals of Insurance-Linked Securities (ILS) course, offered by Insurance-Linked Securities (ILS) education programme, through the LinkedIn profile of one of its alumni. Intrigued by the potential of this unique learning opportunity, I delved deeper and discovered it to be a one-of-a-kind program, offering comprehensive insights and practical skills in the field of Alternative Risk Transfer (ART). Acknowledging the increasing significance of catastrophe bonds and other ART mechanisms in disaster risk financing—particularly for regional risk pools and sovereign risk transfers, given the escalating frequency and severity of climate-related catastrophes—I decided to enroll. My aim was to deepen my knowledge in this pivotal area and better understand the innovative solutions shaping the future of risk management. The 7-week journey has now concluded, and it has been nothing short of transformative. This course not only enhanced my understanding of the dynamic and rapidly expanding ILS market but also equipped me with actionable insights and tools for real-world application. The program’s blend of technical depth, real-world case studies, and engaging discussions ensured a holistic and enriching learning experience. A huge thanks to Toby Pughe and Kirill Savrassov, MSc., LLB (Hons), Dip ILS for crafting such a well-structured and captivating curriculum—it truly serves as an ideal gateway into the fascinating world of ILS. With this solid foundation, I’m eager to continue exploring the ART landscape. I plan to stay informed through resources like Artemis.bm, join online communities focused on catastrophic risk modelling and ART, and seek opportunities to further my expertise in this field. A proposal by the European Central Bank (ECB) and the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority (EIOPA) calls for a natural catastrophe insurance system that includes pooling private risks, strengthening disaster risk management, and the use of catastrophe bonds to support catastrophe reinsurance availability for Europe.

Having previously indicated that it was cautious on reinsurance market conditions and undecided as to whether to add to its insurance-linked securities (ILS) investments for the January 2025 renewals, the State Board of Administration of Florida now appears set to move forwards and increase its allocation to the sector.
