Promoting Independent Living in Later Life
About us
Pickering and Ferens Homes is a registered charity, social landlord and a member of the Almshouse Association. With over 1,400 properties, PFH is the largest locally based independent housing association for older people operational exclusively within Hull and East Yorkshire. In line with our charitable objectives, we provide accommodation and services predominantly for residents aged over 60 years old with a particular social value emphasis on health and wellbeing in later life. Delivering Value for Money (VFM) is an integral part of PFH’s corporate values; we strive to run an efficient and effective organisation whilst providing value for money services to our customers. We aim to make the best use of the resources available for the provision of homes and services, whilst achieving quality standards agreed with our customers. We challenge ourselves to ensure the best use of our resources by first understanding the benefits and measuring them, thus enabling us to realise those benefits over the lifetime of the investment or project. We monitor our performance really carefully to make sure that our services are working well for our residents. Every year we use this information to produce an Annual Report especially for our tenants, which you can view one the "About Us" section of our website.

🌟 Building Bridges Across Generations! 🌟 What a fantastic morning at Christopher Pickering Lodge, where residents welcomed children from Newington Primary School for a heartwarming intergenerational event. Together, they enjoyed board games, cards, dominoes, and chess, followed by some festive fun with Christmas bingo, a quiz, and snacks! 🎄🎲♟️ Intergenerational projects like this one are incredibly powerful. They: ✅ Foster meaningful connections between generations. ✅ Reduce loneliness and isolation for older adults. ✅ Enhance social skills and empathy for young people. ✅ Bring joy, laughter, and a sense of belonging to everyone involved. A huge thank you to everyone who made this wonderful event possible. These moments of connection remind us of the incredible benefits of bringing generations together. 🌱💚

🌟 A Royal Honor for Our Incredible Volunteers! 🌟 We’re thrilled to share that Gloria and Liz, two of our amazing volunteers, represented PFH at the Westminster Abbey Christmas Carols, attended by HRH Princess Catherine! 👑🎄 This once-in-a-lifetime experience was both inspiring and humbling, a true testament to the impact of their work. Thanks to the HEY Smile Foundation, who nominated them after their recognition at the Volunteer Awards in Hull this past October. 🎉 Through their dedication to the Broadway Allotment project, Gloria and Liz have been instrumental in reducing loneliness and isolation while promoting better mental well-being within our community. 🌱💚 We’re so proud of their commitment and the recognition they’ve received—it’s richly deserved. Thank you for all that you do to make a difference! 🙌
