We've joined forces with the Biological Recording Company to bring you a free webinar about hedgehog ecology and conservation on 30th January 2025. 🦔 Hedgehog specialists Hugh Warwick (Author and Ecologist) and Grace Johnson (People's Trust for Endangered Species) will discuss hedgehog biology, threats, and conservation efforts. The event includes two 30-minute presentations followed by a live Q&A. The session will be recorded, and a transcript with useful links will be available to all registrants. 🎟️Book your free space via Eventbrite 👇 https://lnkd.in/e6B2FxAU 📸Christopher Morgan

Bringing the wild back to life
About us
PTES is a conservation charity, working to protect animals and their habitats in the UK as well as supporting conservation work overseas. For over 40 years our ground-breaking research has resulted in practical conservation action across the world, targeted where it is most needed and where it will have maximum impact. Please get in touch to find out more about: • our work to conserve endangered British mammals including water voles, hedgehogs and hazel dormice • how we can protect critical habitats like hedgerows, woodland pasture, traditional orchards and ancient woodland • our free advice on land management techniques and conservation mitigation • accessing large data sets on many endangered species in the UK • our wildlife and habitat surveys which the public can take part in • training courses that are available to ecologists and land managers • conservation grants that we offer to researchers looking to study British mammals, and international species conservation. Conserving the natural world is a huge challenge, and one that no-one can achieve alone. Effective conservation can only be achieved by people working together. Scientists, local communities, landowners, the public, volunteers and partner organisations all play a part. Header image credit Christopher Morgan

Did you know the deadline for consideration of local action to restore nature was at the start of the year? Our Freedom of Information request revealed 59% of Local Authorities had missed this. With overstretched and under resourced councils, it’s clear that more support is needed from Westminster🪙 As we approach the Government’s launch of planning reforms we’re calling for nature and health of communities to be put at the heart of planning. Hedgehogs are one of our nation’s favourite wild animals and, like everyone else, we're so excited when we spot one. But just four years ago, hedgehogs were reclassified as being Vulnerable to Extinction in the UK. It’s a big worry that they’re struggling so much. With your help, we can ensure their survival, as well as the many other species that share their habitat 👇 https://lnkd.in/eQVGq54x 📸Christopher Morgan

Scalloped hammerhead sharks live in the deep, tropical and temperate waters of the Pacific, but in the summer, female sharks travel to the coastal mangroves to give birth to live young. 🦈🎣However, gillnet fishing is prevalent in these shallow waters and, sadly, many young hammerheads are accidentally caught in nets and die. Your gifts to our project are helping fund the creation of safe havens where young sharks can swim freely without the threat of accidental death giving them a much better chance at survival. Donate now to help scalloped hammerheads in Guatemala👇 💙 https://lnkd.in/eAk_Xhc5

In the recently established Environment Act, the government made a provision for regional authorities to develop Local Nature Recovery Strategies (LNRS). These local strategies are being created in collaboration with communities to flag areas of importance for wildlife and opportunities to target action to help restore habitats for species. PTES and partners at Plantlife and the Bat Conservation Trust explain how the LNRS process will help us deliver ambitious global biodiversity targets at home. https://lnkd.in/eNCsdCSw
