The Autumn Budget 2024 was the first delivered by a Labour Chancellor since 2010, and the first ever delivered by a woman. Some things did not change: the objective of all Chancellors is to build a better Britain, to encourage growth, to support the NHS. The objectives Rachel Reeves laid out would not have seemed out of place in any of her predecessors’ speeches. There was, as always, a huge amount of information in the documents that are released on the internet the moment the Chancellor sits down. It is also possible to miss the impact of changes that were announced earlier, and which are only now coming into effect. When the company was established Pentlands were chosen as the company accountants following a referral from one of their existing clients. They have supported the transition through start-up from registering the company for VAT and processing the returns, to bookkeeping and monthly management accounts. However, due to the fast growth of the business, the need quickly arose to bring the day-to-day financial management requirements in-house. This is a role where I have independent responsibility for the financial management. Previously I have had colleagues who I have been able to approach for support, so for me, having Pentlands in place is really helpful, especially in the first few months. They have been supportive of the transition, breaking it down into manageable sections to enable me to find my feet. Pentlands were instrumental in setting up and maintaining Xero and Dext. They have created strong foundations for me to build on by establishing the bookkeeping rules, enabling us to create accurate monthly management accounts.
