🚨 Scam alert! Chinese communities are being targeted by scammers who trick older women out of their valuables by persuading them their loved ones are in danger. Known as a 'blessing scam', a gang of usually three women scam older Chinese women out of jewellery and large sums of money, in a matter of hours! Typically in this scam, one of the scammers tells the woman that her son is going to have a fatal accident in the next few days. But... he can be protected by the blessing of a healer. “You need to take a handful of rice, and put in as much gold and cash in a bag as you can”. They would then visit 'a healer' to say a blessing over the valuables. 😟 Sadly, when the victim returns home, her valuables have been switched for worthless objects. 😡 Recently, there's been a wave of cases on the streets of the UK, US, Australia and Canada. Police are investigating and victims' families are trying to find the fraudsters. Read the BBC article below for the full details of this carefully orchestrated scam. #fraud #scams #scamaware https://lnkd.in/eJfjw_GV

🚨 From today, UK banks must refund scam victims 🚨 💷 Bank transfer scams – also known as "authorised push payment (APP)" fraud – cost individuals and businesses in the UK at least £459.7 million in 2023. Last year, only 62% of this was returned to those affected. ❓ What payment types are covered? The new rules only cover scams where you've sent the money by UK bank transfer, either by Faster Payments or CHAPS. Other payment types, including card, cash and cheque AREN'T covered. ❓ Are all banks covered? Yes, and not just banks - building societies, prepaid card providers and savings providers are included too. ❓ How much can be claimed back? £85,000. The Payment Systems Regulator (PSR), the body behind the new rules, says the £85,000 limit will cover 99.8% of all APP scam cases, and lead to reimbursement of around 90% of the total value of APP scams. However, if you've lost more than this amount and think the firm was at fault, you can complain to the Financial Ombudsman service, which has a higher limit of £430,000. ❓ Could claims be rejected? Yes, but only if banks can show a person acted with a 'significant degree of carelessness'. According to the regulator, this should only affect a minority of cases. ❓ How long will it take to get money back? In most cases, a refund should be received within 5 working days of the claim being made. If the case is more complex, requiring time to gather additional evidence, the bank has up to 35 working days. ➡ If you'd like to learn more, check out Martin Lewis's article... #fraud #scams #APPscams https://lnkd.in/eMBbvtcP
