🌍 Systems that once worked may no longer meet the needs of today’s world. Population migration and climate change are reshaping communities, leaving hospitals underused in some areas while others are overwhelmed. In Nepal, as people move for work and climate shifts reshape the landscape, traditional health systems struggle to adapt. It’s a stark reminder that we need flexible, responsive systems that evolve with these changes. Learning from similar countries and adapting proven approaches can be a powerful way forward however approaches need to be adapted to suit each context. Thanks to Shrutika Murthy for aptly summarising our session at #HSR2024. Discussions with the audience confirmed that the Urban Shade research is timely and that policy makers need to not only merge climate priorities with health priorities, but also include marginalised communities as they are usually the most affected by extreme weather events.
