Our own version of Wrapped, but this one is dedicated to the Store Managers who train the new retail leaders of OB. To learn the ropes, every new member of store management spends a few weeks at a training store. Our Training Managers patience, expertise, and dedication create ripple effects that strengthen the whole business. A massive thank you to the team for their hard work and for creating a fantastic onboarding experience for our new management teams.

Work Hard, Play Hard and Be Kind
About us
Our story starts with our founder, Olly. His creative upbringing, culturally influenced by the many countries he lived in, instilled a love of design and an exploratory spirit from an early age. At university whilst studying Anthropology, Olly began to bring back gifts for friends from his travels abroad. He turned this into a small business and in 1993 the first store opened in London, repainted by his friends with Olly behind a second-hand till. Three decades on, we now have over 85 stores and have evolved from curating others’ designs to creating our own. At Oliver Bonas (OB), our values of Work Hard, Play Hard & Be Kind are integral to everything we do. Collaboration, imagination, curiosity, and teamwork are key to our success, and everyone has their part to play in making OB a special place to work. Having fun is key, and a playful and positive approach creates an optimistic environment. We don’t take ourselves too seriously, but we are serious about what we do. Our team knows their stuff. They’re confident and creative and unafraid to challenge convention to find solutions, taking accountability for their actions, but always with kindness and humility. Our promise is to do our bit to make living a joyful experience and give cause for optimism. This promise is central to our work in equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI). To bring joy to others, we must first ensure everyone at OB feels valued, included and most importantly, can be themselves at work. At company level, we have set out our approach to EDI with our Leadership team, who are committed to leading on all our initiatives and conveying that message across the business. We empower our managers to promote a sense of belonging within their teams. We also expect everyone at OB to value and look out for each other by always being considerate and mindful of others. Milestone achieved: We've earned the Skills Builder Partnership Bronze Excellence Mark. Skills Builder's Universal Framework breaks down eight Essential Skills into clear, progressive steps - making professional development more accessible and measurable for everyone. These skills form a practical foundation for both personal and professional growth. Our journey with Skills Builder began in 2022, when we started supporting schools and colleges by funding teacher training in the Universal Framework. Building on this foundation, we've now integrated these Essential Skills into our own practices through job descriptions and L&D team training, with plans to expand their use across OB. This mark represents a meaningful step in our commitment to supporting skills development, both within OB and in our wider community.

Our charity Christmas decoration idea was pitched by Sam, the son of one of our team members, Amy. A young, budding entrepreneur who lives with ADHD, Sam suggested we install gumball machines in all our stores for when children are shopping with their parents. This led to the design of our gumball decoration, designed collaboratively with Sam and raising money for SOS!SEN, a charity that helps secure the right educational support for young people with special educational needs and disabilities.

We're marking Disability History Month at OB (Nov 14 - Dec 20, 2024) Our Disability & Chronic Illness Voices team have created valuable resources for our teams, including practical tips for managing employment with a disability or long-term condition. Sneak peek below. At OB, we're committed to creating a workplace where everyone feels valued and supported. Through flexible working, our Disability Inclusion Policy and our commitment to the Disability Confident scheme (we're Level Two qualified!), we're working to build an environment where everyone can thrive. This year's theme of 'Disability Livelihood and Employment' gives us a chance to celebrate our progress while recognising there's always more we can do.

One year after we announced our partnership with Bloody Good Period, we're excited to be extending it until the end of 2025. They're taking part in The Big Give, meaning all their donations are doubled between now and December 10th. We saved up a big donation to support this amazing cause.
