Passionately serving the autistic community in the North-east for 40 years
About us
For 40 years we’ve led the way in providing autism-specific care and education for children, young people and adults across the North-east of England. Recognised for our innovation and excellence, everything we do stems from an unswerving belief in providing bespoke person-centred support. It’s at the heart of who we are to recognise the uniqueness of every human being, and to understand that no two autistic people, or in fact any humans within an understanding of neurodiversity, will have the same needs or wants. We passionately believe that autistic children and adults have significant skills and strengths, which can be developed throughout their lifetime. Our approach aims to support individuals to participate in society as independent and valued citizens, enjoying equal rights and opportunities but also enriching the world around them.

Minister sees impact of services helping autistic people into work 💛👏 We told a Government minister longer-term funding is needed for employment initiatives to help autistic people into work. Our CEO, John Phillipson, made the impassioned plea when Sir Stephen Timms, Minister of State for Social Security and Disability, visited the innovative training project at New Warlands Farm. Sir Stephen has praised the charity’s “very impressive” £4.2m plans to develop a working farm and visitor centre – complete with a café, shop, retail units and apple mill – as a training centre and employment hub for autistic and neurodivergent people. New Warlands Farm currently hosts 52 autistic people as a training centre, but John told the minister 64 meaningful jobs could be provided through the planned development of the farm over the next year. We are also in talks with high-profile businesses about training partnerships at the site, leading to jobs elsewhere. During a tour of New Warlands Farm, near Burnhope, the minister talked to staff and adults, saw a wood workshop in action, and sampled the “delicious” apple juice produced from hundreds of trees on the site. Update from Grandma elf... We're over the moon for Anne (Grandma elf) as she has smashed her fundraising target 🎉🎄 Anne is dressing up as an elf every day from December 1 until Boxing Day to raise funds for our Little Stars Christmas appeal. Anne’s two-year-old granddaughter Cora attends one of our toddler groups, which she says has changed the family’s lives around. The Little Stars appeal aims to raise £5000 so the charity can keep the toddler groups going. Throughout the month she's been wrapping Christmas presents, decorating her tree, going to toddler groups with Cora, going to the pantomime, delivering Christmas cards and shopping - all in her elf gear 😅 Thank you so much for your support Anne! If you'd like to support Anne's fundraising you can do so here - https://lnkd.in/eiGf7xSS Or if you're feeling inspired to take on your own fundraising challenge next year, contact the fundraising team on [email protected] #AutismAcceptance #Autism #Autisitc #AutismAwareness #Christmas #fundraising #festive

Will you back our Little Stars? ✨ Did you know that autistic children who don’t get the right support early on are more likely to be excluded from school and experience mental health challenges? Our Patron, Pam Royle, is appealing for your support to help our Little Stars! We’re aiming to raise £5,000 to keep our free toddler groups running in 2025. These groups provide vital support for families before, during, or after a child’s diagnosis and are often their only lifeline. Early support is the key to brighter futures for autistic children. Let’s make a difference together! #AutismAcceptance #Autistic #LittleStarsAppeal #Christmas #ChristmasGiving #Neurodiversity #Fundraising

✨ Can you help back our Little Stars? ✨ On the run-up to Christmas, we’re aiming to raise £5,000 to fund ‘life-changing’ groups for autistic toddlers. These vital groups receive no local authority funding and are reliant on the generosity of donors to keep running. £25 can provide a group with sensory equipment, supporting toddlers’ development and helping parents discover new ways of meeting their child’s sensory needs. Parents say the support they receive from our groups has been ‘life-changing’ and your donations help us continue to help autistic toddlers and their families throughout the new year. Our Little Stars Appeal is making headlines thanks to a fun-loving family ⭐ 🎅 Richard Carter, Anne Wilkinson, Skye Thompson, nine, and Cora Thompson, two, are dressing up as elves everyday until December 26 to raise money for our Christmas appeal. The family's quirky festive appeal is all down to little Cora, who has enjoyed playing, building up her confidence and meeting other children at one of our toddler groups. The Little Stars Appeal aims to raise £5,000 to continue our lifeline service in 2025. Grandmother Anne explained the impact toddler group has had on the whole family, saying: "The group is wonderful, it's like a little family. We have such a good laugh and the children are happy. It's not just changed Cora's life around, but it's changed Katy's too. "The support we get there has been, and continues to be, so vital to us, as it is for the other parents and children. That's why we wanted to give back. The charity has been fantastic. They're just there for you, it's absolutely great."
