The world is unpredictable, and so are the people who use our designs. As UX professionals, we're often expected to bring clarity and certainty. But what happens when we embrace the uncertainty instead? In this episode of Collaborate, Astrid van Waveren, Principal UX Consultant, explores how existentialism offers valuable insights for UX design. By leaning into ambiguity and designing authentically, we can create experiences that are not only meaningful but also more impactful for users. Ready to challenge conventional thinking and see design through a fresh lens? 📹 Watch the full talk on YouTube via the link in the comments. #UX #UserExperience #DesignThinking #Existentialism #UXEducation

Inspiring and educating through visual design. Recently, we had the privilege of collaborating with the Raspberry Pi Foundation to bring their vision for Ada Computer Science to life. This platform was designed to empower educators and inspire the next generation of computer scientists. Here’s how we made it happen: 📖 Brand Storytelling: Inspired by Ada’s "poetic science," we created a unique visual language blending historical and modern influences to reflect the journey of technological innovation. 📈Mathematic Designs: Geometric patterns and bold, simple forms echoing foundational mathematics set Ada apart in a crowded market. ♿ Inclusive Design: Accessibility was key. Meeting AAA standards to ensure the platform is open to all, breaking barriers to computer science education. With a strong visual identity and design guidelines in place, Ada is now set to inspire young minds globally, champion inclusivity, and drive the future of digital education. Ready to create your next big brand story? Let’s talk. We’ve helped many businesses from the education sector, like The University of Cambridge, The University of the West of England (UWE), and Sheffield Hallam University connect with audiences through impactful design. Don’t allow your digital products or services to flop! Organisations can avoid setting their next digital product up for failure by leveraging one of their most useful tools... Usability testing. At its core, UX design is about creating products that not only look good but also provide a seamless experience for users. Usability testing ensures that a final product aligns with user expectations and needs. Leveraging effective usability testing will enable you to: - Identify user pain points and areas for improvement in the early stages of product design - Obtain valuable insights into a products usability in the real world, leading to more intuitive, user-friendly interfaces - Uncover potential challenges and reduce the need for post-launch modifications Don’t sleep on the opportunity to optimise your product throughout its development cycle, it could cost you! Back in 2022, we teamed up with the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) to take the first big step in their Digital Experience Project (DXP). This was part of their ambition to create an outstanding student journey from start to finish. Here’s how we made an impact: 🔧 Building skills for the future: To help UWE achieve their goals, we developed a 12-week training programme that empowered their Digital Experience team with user-centred design (UCD) and research skills. Through hands-on, collaborative learning, the team: - Planned and conducted research activities - Gained confidence in usability testing - Integrated UCD processes into workflows - Applied insights to improve the student dashboard 🌍 Real world application: Our partnership went beyond training by embedding new skills into daily practices, we helped foster a UCD mindset across UWE’s teams. With tailored frameworks, research templates, and co-design sessions, the team now has the tools to drive continuous improvement. 💥 The impact: Our collaborative approach resulted in a more confident team, a passion for UCD, and a scalable approach to designing exceptional student experiences. Check out the full case study via the link in the comments. Interested in improving your organisation’s design and UCD expertise? It’s International Men's Day! We want to shine a light on the fact that talking is key, but it’s not always the easiest thing to do... Most of the time, men aren’t comfortable reaching out and opening up about life’s challenges – or they think they’ll be burdening their friends if they do. If someone you care about seems to be going through a tough time, they might not talk about it, even if they want to. At Nomensa, this Movember we’re encouraging you to adopt the ALEC approach to help you get the conversation going! Find out more about the ALEC Conversation Strategy and check on your friends today! > https://ow.ly/gena50Uacb2 #InternationalMensDay #ALEC #Movember
