Good morning! Just a few days until the weekend.. and a moment to breath with family! Another busy day ahead, but there’s nothing better than starting it with purpose and drive. This morning, I’m connecting with Mick Gibb, my Australian counterpart, to dive into all things Night Time Economy and conference planning. With friends from the Southern Hemisphere joining us soon as part of a broader trade delegation, there’s plenty of exciting ground to cover. From there, the day picks up pace. I’ll be diving into internals and catching up with Mike King from X Base to discuss crypto, fiat currency, and how they’re shaping the future. Later, I’ll be meeting Sylvia Oates from Six Til Six, followed by recording a podcast with Ian Fox and Co., which I’ve been really looking forward to. As the day rolls on, there’s a fantastic opportunity to collaborate with Sarah McBriar from AVA, an interview with Natalie Terrell from Bath University, and a quick stop at ITV London for an update on challenges within London and the outcome of the Gaucho hearing. There’s always something new to learn and share in this ever-evolving space. The afternoon will bring more focus on and opportunity, with summit updates with Scarlett from Defected, a conversation with Kate Nicholls from UK Hospitality on security, and a wrap-up with the HOLBA team to talk about the West End. How Will This Year End for the UK’s Night-Time Economy? Once again, businesses across Scotland are being shafted—this time over business rates. Westminster giveth with one hand and taketh away with the other. Promises of policy reform, planning improvements, and business rates re-evaluation are all well and good, but these are long-term fixes. What our industry desperately needs are short-term solutions to survive the here and now. Meanwhile, the UK government is touting its Devolution White Paper as a “once-in-a-generation” shift in power. The plan includes:
 ✔️ Merging district and county councils into unitary authorities for streamlined governance.
 ✔️ Expanding mayoral zones with enhanced powers over transport, housing, and taxation.
 ✔️ Enabling new councils to operate before their formal recognition in April 2027, aiming to save £2 billion.
 ✔️ Reserving ministerial powers to override local resistance to reforms. While Westminster focuses on long-term restructuring, the jobs crisis deepens. UK firms are cutting staff at levels not seen since the 2008 crash. Where is the immediate support our businesses need to keep doors open and staff employed? 🎄 9 Days Until Christmas… Still Fighting Through the Chaos! 🎄 Another jam-packed day ahead for the NTIA team as we continue pushing for the future of the night-time economy. We kick off this morning meeting with Help Musicians to discuss NTES25 and the exciting plans coming together for next year. Straight after, it’s over to the Home Office Alcohol Team—a new team, a fresh approach, and plenty of opportunities to collaborate. Later, we connect with Silent Noize, our amazing partners for NTES25, before catching up with Duncan King from Skiddle—one last meeting before the Christmas break. After that, we join the MHCLG High Streets call to dive into the big conversations about control, devolution, and the future of our sector. This afternoon, we’re focused on the launch of the Listen for Life campaign on 3rd March 2025 at Ronnie Scott’s, working alongside House of Nige and the wider team to make it a moment to remember. There’s also planning to do for the return of the Ambassadors of the Night Awards in March, following last year’s hugely successful event—stay tuned for a date announcement soon. We’ll end the day at the Home Office Christmas Reception, joined by NTIA Board Member and IPSA CEO Satia Rai, celebrating the season with friends and colleagues across the sector.
