Giving Children and Young People a Voice on Conflict
About us
At Never Such Innocence we aim to give children and young people across the world a voice on war and conflict. We offer opportunities to reflect on historical and contemporary conflict through poetry, art and song through our workshops, roadshows and annual competition. The Competition Our annual international cross-curricular competition enables young people, aged 9-18, to have their say on war and conflict through the creative arts. Roadshows We give young people platforms to share their voice on conflict at prestigious venues, to an audience of their peers, local dignitaries, members of the Armed Forces, and VIPs. We hold in-school and virtual workshops to give young people the tools to develop creative pieces reflecting on conflict, which is showcased at our roadshows. If you would like us to visit your local area please get in touch with us via [email protected].

We’ve had a really lovely last couple of days working with the extremely bright students at BFS Naples, ahead of Remembrance Day. They wrote stellar songs and speeches and thought provoking poems. On Friday, the students had an assembly at school, showcasing everything they worked on to distinguished members of the community. One told them, ‘If everyone lived by the words you wrote in that song there would be no more wars.” Today they were part of the community Remembrance Service at Christ Church in Naples, reciting a poem (you’ll see the last stanza) and beautifully singing The 11th of November. Everyone was so impressed by them! The kids even got invited back to sing for the carol service! Thank you for playing your part this Remembrance Day. Your words were poignant and powerful. Huge well done to all of the children!👏 Thank you Jody for inviting us down and brilliantly organising our visit. Thank you to all of the staff for giving us such a warm welcome. We look forward to coming back next year!

Recently we had the pleasure of sending all of last year’s competition participants and winners something very special….. A letter from UK Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer, congratulating children in the UK and around the world on their moving and inspiring creative poems, artwork, speeches and songs. He highlighted their courage to share their views and experiences of conflict. As noted in the letter, children today are far more affected by war than at any time since World War II. ‘We have heard you; we have listened. You are the peacebuilders and leaders of the future. You have an important role to play in building a more peaceful world.’ Thank you Prime Minister for hearing and listening to our extraordinary young people!
