Today the government announced their plans to bring forward more underused and overpriced land for development and their intentions to further reform compulsory purchase orders. 👉 https://lnkd.in/diwnQiTj These changes are important step in increasing supply. Enabling local councils to buy cheaper land through Compulsory Purchase Orders will allow them to build more affordable homes across the country, in the right places for the people who need them most. However to reach the government's target of 1.5 million new homes over this parliament, we will need additional measures to support the social housing sector to deliver the social and affordable homes the country needs. 🗞️ https://lnkd.in/dWvHbbvy

🚨 Homelessness Funding 🚨 👉 https://lnkd.in/eFQ4HhAP The government’s commitment to multiyear funding for homelessness services and prevention is welcome and will give local authorities long-term certainty to provide vital services so they do not have to bid for funding year on year. However, without a focus and funding for supported housing, the homelessness crisis that affects so many across the country will continue to worsen. Ahead of the Spending Review, we’re calling on the government to protect this vital provision by reinstating £1.6bn of ringfenced funding housing related support, as part of a long term plan to end the housing crisis.

Kate Henderson on BBC Breakfast yesterday morning discussing the Government’s ambitious housing targets and proposed planning reforms. We welcome the government’s continued commitment to tackling the housing crisis, putting housing at the heart of its growth mission. Ahead of the spring spending review we are calling for a substantial boost in investment and funding for new affordable homes, particularly for social rent. This is the best way for the government to meet its 1.5 million new homes target.

"We welcome Labour's renewed commitment today to building the 1.5 million homes this country desperately needs, to help solve the housing crisis. 📄 Plan for Change: https://lnkd.in/eikC-wC6 With over 8 million people living in unsuitable, unaffordable homes, or homeless, housing associations are ready to work with the government to deliver the homes we need. However, the impact of decades of cuts and rent caps together with increased spending on repairs and building safety, is impacting the ability to build new homes. Ahead of the upcoming spending review, we are calling on government to introduce a package of measures to support the social housing sector to rebuild capacity including increased funding for new and existing social homes, as part of a new long-term housing strategy.”
