About us

Portuguese flavour, African fire 🌶 Ask people where Nando’s comes from and you’ll get a different answer every time. Portugal? Mexico? The UK? Our story actually starts in Rosettenville, a Portuguese neighbourhood in Johannesburg, South Africa. It was 1987 and Robbie Brozin and Fernando Duarte opened their first chicken restaurant. Then another. And then another. Fast forward five years and Nando’s landed in the UK, with stops in Mozambique. Now, with over 480 restaurants (and counting), our PERi-PERi is a bestselling hot sauce and Nando’s has become as big a part of culture as drinking tea. We’ve got a growing family of 20,000 Nandocas, fuelled by our values: Pride, Passion, Integrity, Courage and Family. We care as much about them as we do our legendary, flame-grilled PERi-PERi – because it’s the people that make the chicken. Want to join?   • In 2017, we joined the fight against malaria. We recently showed our appreciation for our incredible Nandocas, who have dedicated their time and effort to the cause by inviting them to our recognition and celebration event. We announced the lucky winners who entered our raffle with some amazing prizes up for grabs such as signed football and rugby tops, tech goodies, high street vouchers and a year’s supply of Coca-Cola 😲 a great way to share the love with our Nandocas, and show how our PERi-PERi makes a positive impact in our homeland. Our collective fundraising efforts this year will protect over 130,000 people from malaria in southern Africa. Together, we’re changing lives.   • The Peach 20/20 Hero & Icon Awards celebrate the very best our industry has to offer each year. Last night we were buzzing to have won the Sustainability Champion Award 🙌 the award was voted for by industry peers for our efforts in employability, waste reduction, carbon reduction and food donations.   • This October, we've been sparking some important conversations with our Nandocas... We had senior managers speak about menopause at our panel event, sharing their experiences and sparking open discussions around it. We also fuelled an event for our friends at Milk Honey Bees, empowering young black women through creative workshops and expert panels.   • Following the fiery national competitions around the world earlier this year, our International Grillers’ Challenge competition returned in Botswana. Representing the UK & Ireland were Macey (Warrington Golden Square restaurant), Kieran (Watford High Street) and Bailey (Chatham) grilling the finest PERi-PERi chicken for our lucky judges to try.   • Welcome to our newest restaurant, Northampton Sixfields 😍 For the fans of the nearby Cobblers and the Saints, our new stunning restaurant is the perfect pit stop before or after the game, surrounded by original Southern African artwork to have the finest PERi-PERi. Kat, the Patrao (General Manager) of the restaurant joined Nando’s in 2009, working her way to becoming a Patrao five years later. Now leading a team of over 60 fired-up Nandocas in Sixfields, Kat and the team will also be supporting Foodkind, who are a not-for-profit organisation which promotes sustainability by preventing food and goods from going to waste.     We've been encouraging fans to enter their weird era this Halloween 👻 Some of our restaurants got taken over too. We hosted a movie night in our Dublin St Andrew's Street restaurant, and threw a massive party at our Manchester Printworks restaurant. Shout out to our amazing Nandocas that embraced the spooky spirit and helped make it all happen. #NandosLife

  • We’re as passionate about our people as we are about our food, as we believe it's the people that make the chicken. As such, we have several programmes for our people to join to help them with their career aspirations. Jonny from our Richmond restaurant started his Level 2 apprenticeship with us last year, and will complete it in early 2025. He started studying physics at university, but this wasn’t for him, so left the course after a year. He became a Manager of a coffee shop and found his passion for hospitality – “it’s the buzz and fast pace, it’s great!” “I love cooking, I’m a big foodie. I was looking for a job as a chef, but as I didn’t have any experience, I wasn’t having much luck. I knew of Nando’s and found out about their apprenticeship programmes. It’s a great opportunity – I knew that I’d learn the cooking skills I wanted, whilst earning a living. Other employers would make me start as a pot wash, but this apprenticeship has meant I’ve been able to get ahead. It didn’t matter that I didn’t have any previous experience – I now have it!     Our new menu just dropped and it includes a brand-new guest spice on our PERi-ometer, Nando’s x Fanta (limited time only). Nando's and Fanta Orange Zero Sugar have long gone hand in hand, with flavour fans across UK & IRE making the most of our bottomless drinks offering to complement their PERi-PERi, or to cool-off after an Extra Hot meal.   • Nando’s Indaba - a gathering of leaders and what we call our annual work conference. It’s all about connection, fun, reflection, coming together as a family and creating unforgettable memories in a way that only Nando’s can.     Who better to tell us about how to make our restaurants better places to be in and work in, than the people that work in them every day? Once a year, we invite our Nandocas (Team Members) to our regional Nandoca Forums. They’re listening forums where a representative from each restaurant can connect with each other and to speak to senior management and Central Support teams to share the thoughts, feelings and ideas on behalf of their team about their restaurant, Nando’s in general and what they think could be better. It’s also an opportunity for them to hear about what exciting things are happening in Nando’s for them to take back to their teams to get them fired-up for the future. Kaiten from our Enfield Retail Park restaurant let us know about the forum he attended: "In the Forum, we heard about what’s happening in the Nando’s world and learnt about the different programmes for career progression, which I can share with my team. We also had the time and opportunity to speak to our Area Manager directly about what we’d like to change or improve about our restaurants or Nando’s overall, which is then shared with other senior managers. "By attending and representing the Enfield Retail Park restaurant, I felt very proud and honoured. Everyone from my restaurant cheered me on which was heart warming and sentimental to me as I felt the value that I bring to our team. Now when I enter work, I always come in with a smile on my face.” #NandosLife
