At the Pledge, sessions started with inspirational speeches from Deputy Mayor Sharon Thompson, JP followed by an Awards Ceremony led by Ricky Dehaney CEO, Prison Link. Bethany Parkes and Eleanor Fry from Birmingham City Council's Knowledge, Evidence and Governance team gave an insightful talk on equity in employment and the use of data. Many thanks to Simone Connolly, CEO of FareShare Midlands, and ReachOut’s Gavin Foody for their engaging session on having inclusive supply chains and opportunities that tackle food poverty. We also had a great talk from Sue Roberts, CEO Better Pathways Mental Health Charity and Oakland International Limited's Nicola Harris on preparing people with complex needs for the world of work. Darren Harris, former Captain of the Blind England Football team and Paralympian shared his experience in high performance sport and living with a disability, with a highly encouraging session on unleashing potential. One of the most inspiring events I ever attended!
Last night at The Muath Trust, we had the honour of hosting an inspiring event featuring Baroness Sayeeda Warsi in conversation with Channel 4 Journalist Darshna Soni about her powerful new book, 'Muslims Don’t Matter'. Darshna Soni facilitated the discussion, guiding the audience through Baroness Sayeeda Warsi’s reflections on her journey in politics, the challenges she faced, and her insights into the growing normalization of Islamophobia in society and within power structures. The conversation was both eye-opening and impactful, leaving a lasting impression on everyone in attendance. Attendees also had the chance to take part in a lively Q&A session, purchase Baroness Sayeeda Warsi’s book, and have it signed on the night. Thank you to everyone who joined us for this important event and special thanks to Rawaad Mahyub, Jehangir Malik OBE, James M., and Hasan Salim Patel for a truly inspirational event. If you haven’t already, be sure to get your copy of Muslims Don’t Matter - it’s a must-read! #BirminghamVoices #TheMuathTrust #Equality #Islamophobia #BirminghamEvents
