Great day so far at the Career Development Institute national conference in Birmingham. A really good venue and we are having lots of very interesting conversations with career professionals looking for the ideal solution for their schools, colleges, universities and private clients! Plus, an interesting webinar on AI from Joanne Carrington at Morrisby, based on our recent report from Associate Professor Deirdre Hughes OBE and Chris Percy PhD which can be downloaded here - https://lnkd.in/eGqTpese

Our submission to the UK Department of Education’s Curriculum and Assessment Review is in. We had plenty to say - see link below - but to summarise: 🧭 Careers education, information, advice and guidance (CEIAG) form the foundation on which young people are able to make informed decisions about their future pathways, whether academic or vocational. There should therefore be greater focus on careers education within schools, both generally within subject areas - to draw the link with the world of work - and specifically within the PHSE curriculum, where there are obvious gaps. 🎯 Young people not engaged with school often reengage once they take part in meaningful career education, and have a clearer sense of what they want to do with their futures. The range and quality of careers provision can be a major contributor to young people not becoming NEET. 🚀 There should be more emphasis on understanding and identifying learners’ potential, rather than academic achievement, as this can be the key to having a fulfilling career. 💻 Technology allows for career guidance to be personalised to each individual young person, regardless of social, cultural or educational background. As such it can be a major engine for closing social and economic gaps, but only if properly funded. 👨🏫 👩🏫 The careers leader should be part of the school SLT to give careers education the right profile within the school, and should have access to a budget at the level required to allow the school to satisfy the Gatsby Benchmarks, and for students to realise fulfilling futures. 📖 Read our full submission here: https://lnkd.in/ejjs44Ph
