Marshall Aid Commemoration Commission

The Marshall Aid Commemoration Commission's Marshall Scholarship scheme is one of the best things we do across the US. Each year a group of brilliant, inquiring, energetic, enterprising, inspiring young Americans pack up and head across the Atlantic to enjoy the best of British education and culture, funded by the scheme that was enshrined in British law in 1953. Since then, our marvellous Marshalls have produced 2 Supreme Court Justices, and achieved 6 Pulitzer Prizes, 2 Nobel Prizes, 2 Oscar nominations,1 Grammy Award, a Distinguished Flying Cross, and 14 MacArthur Genius Grant awards. But most importantly, every day they help nurture the truly warm and long-lasting relationship between the UK and the US. Congratulations to the 2025 cohort of Marshall Scholars! 🎉 Congratulations to the 36 winners of the 2025 Marshall Scholarships! 🎓 The British Government has announced this year’s cohort of Marshall Scholars, selected from America’s most accomplished students. These exceptional individuals will begin graduate studies at top universities across the United Kingdom next year, continuing a proud tradition of academic excellence and leadership. Dame Karen Pierce, Ambassador to British Embassy Washington reflected on the program’s enduring importance, stating: “Marshall Scholars continue to represent the very best of American society, dedicating their time and effort to address some of the great challenges of our time, from cyber security and Artificial Intelligence to advancing our knowledge of the universe. The Marshall Scholarship remains an integral part of the U.K.-U.S. relationship, established through British gratitude to General Marshall at the end of WWII.” This year’s winners represent 26 universities across 16 U.S. states, with nearly a third coming from public or state universities. For the first time, students from California State University - East Bay and the University of Nevada-Las Vegas were among those selected. ICYMI, 2006 Marshall Scholar Sarah Stillman won a 2024 Pulitzer for Explanatory Reporting with The New York Times. Marshall Scholars are prize-winning journalists, world-reknowned artists, leading political figures, & ground-breaking scientists.

It's the 70th anniversary of the Marshall Scholarship! In 1954, the UK created the scholarship in gratitude to the US for the Marshall Plan. The 2024 class celebrated at a reception in London. They carry with them a legacy of 70 years of the UK-US relationship.

The 2024 class of Marshall Scholars is in Washington, DC for orientation! Our 2024 scholars class took a tour of the White House, met with Marshall alumni working across DC, visited the Planet Word & enjoyed a reception with British Embassy Washington DHM James Roscoe, MVO.
