How many more toys could Santa’s workshop make if the elves were helped with additive manufacturing? 🏭 For additive manufacturing to be successful, it requires careful characterization of components’ raw materials, such as metal powders and polymer powders. To support additive manufacturers, we offer several analytical tools to facilitate particle size, particle shape, and elemental analysis – helping get those toys ready on time. MP’s Mastersizer 3000+ uses laser diffraction to carry out rapid particle size distribution analysis, which can be used to provide a global benchmark for measuring reference microplastics, an invaluable tool to the MOMENTUM project. Our small liquid dispersion unit accessory, the Hydro SV, only requires very small amounts of sample to get good quality and repeatable data. Microplastic samples can also be viewed on the Morphologi 4-ID, which combines automated particle imaging with Raman spectroscopy in a single, integrated platform. Particle size, particle shape, and chemical identification information can be investigated for individual particles or at larger sample scales, enabling detailed characterization of mixtures. What if Santa wanted to upgrade his sleigh for Christmas and switch from reindeer power to electricity? 🦌🛷 With Santa’s sleigh having such an important job, it’s vital that it runs powerfully and efficiently. X-ray diffraction (XRD) technology plays an important role in the advancement of EV (electric vehicle) batteries. By understanding parameters such as phase composition, crystallite size and degree of graphitization, manufacturers can improve EV battery quality and performance. For example, crystallite size has a direct impact on the rate at which lithium ions can migrate within the battery – influencing both the charging speed and the battery’s overall capacity. Smaller crystallites can enhance ion transport, leading to improved battery performance, especially in high-power applications, such as Santa delivering presents across the globe in one night! 🎅🏻🎁 Discover how our XRD technology holds the key to better EV batteries here: https://lnkd.in/e_cXCZia #PartnersinDiscovery #Engineering #Analysis #EVs #ElectricVehicles #XRD #XRayDiffraction #MaterialScience #BatteryMaterials

A growing global population increases the need for better handling of Earth’s resources. Soil is a vitally important resource that supports approximately 90% of all human food, livestock feed, fiber and fuel requirements. It is also the second largest active store of carbon after the oceans, and stores more carbon than the atmosphere and vegetation combined. However, soil is not renewable, and suffers from erosion, contamination, acidification and degradation, due to climate change and human activity. Sustainable soil management practices are therefore vital to maintain and improve soil health. Soil chemistry is an important parameter for gauging the fertility of soil, particularly the carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus and trace heavy metal content. Malvern Panalytical’s XRF technology offers unparalleled accuracy and precision in identifying and quantifying the elemental composition of soil samples, providing valuable insights into soil health, pollution levels, and the presence of critical nutrients or contaminants – supporting our vision to help make the world cleaner, healthier, and more productive.
