  • Frontline communities urgently need $400 billion per year to address #LossAndDamage effectively, a figure that represents the true scale of the crises caused by climate-induced disasters. Yet, developed countries have offered a mere $700 million—a fraction of what is required to rebuild lives, infrastructure, and livelihoods in vulnerable nations. This glaring disparity highlights the persistent failure of wealthier nations to take meaningful responsibility for their role in the climate crisis. Claire from Asian Peoples Movementt provides critical updates and key takeaways from the recently concluded 4th Board Meeting of the Loss and Damage Fund. The meeting saw promises of progress but fell woefully short in securing the ambitious financial commitments needed. Bureaucratic delays and insufficient pledges continue to deepen the injustice faced by those on the frontlines of climate impacts. It’s time for real action—not crumbs masquerading as solutions. The world’s most vulnerable communities, who have contributed the least to the climate crisis yet bear its harshest impacts, deserve equitable and sustained financial support. Every delay costs lives, and every broken promise erodes trust. #LossAndDamageFinanceNow! #ClimateJustice

  • From Manila, Philippines: Jefferson Estela, representing the Loss and Damage Youth Coalition on behalf of YOUNGO—the official children and youth constituency in the UNFCCC process—actively participated in the recently concluded 4th #LossAndDamage Fund Board Meeting. While the meeting provided a platform to address critical issues, it fell short of delivering tangible outcomes. As the meeting wrapped up, we must not overlook COP29 Azerbaijan's glaring failures: critical goals were delayed, and only crumbs were pledged for a crisis that demands billions. Once again, developed nations sidestepped their responsibilities, hiding behind bureaucracy and broken promises, while frontline communities continue to suffer the devastating impacts of climate-induced loss and damage. Now, the independent secretariat and the Executive Director face the crucial task of pushing developed countries to make bold and meaningful contributions to the Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage (FRLD). They must leverage their influence to demand scaled-up pledges, turn commitments into actionable support, and challenge the World Bank to prioritize #ClimateJustice over corporate interests. We demand: 1️⃣ Scaled-up funding to meet the scale of the crisis. 2️⃣ Accessibility for all, ensuring equitable and transparent distribution of resources. 3️⃣ Grants, not loans, to avoid further indebting vulnerable nations. No more delays. No more excuses. The time for action is now. #LossAndDamageFinanceNow! #ClimateJustice

  • "This 'Finance COP' did not deliver the outcomes it should. The text fails to deliver meaningful progress on loss and damage, instead featuring rehashed commitments and voluntary mechanisms. Once again, vulnerable nations like the Philippines are left stranded without the guaranteed support we need to face the escalating climate crisis. Loss and damage finance—a pillar so crucial in addressing the irreversible impacts of the climate crisis—is noticeably absent from the goal, and stuck in a cycle of insufficient pledges and bad faith offers. This is in the face of urgent needs on the frontlines amounting to USD $395 billion in 2025 for catastrophic losses. Yet developed countries have so far offered little. What was meant to be a conference embodying the spirit of climate justice has instead entrenched global inequality. This is no 'Finance COP'; it's a sham, and the world's most vulnerable deserve far better." Jefferson Estela , East and Southeast Asia Steering Committee Member of the Loss and Damage Youth Coalition, shared his insights on the outcomes of COP29 Azerbaijan . To ensure that the FRLD directly reaches those most affected, Jefferson Estela is currently attending the 4th Board Meeting in Manila, Philippines as the representative of YOUNGO , the official constituency of children and youth in the UNFCCC UN process, where discussions are underway to finalize mechanisms for equitable and efficient disbursement of the funds. #LossAndDamageFinanceNow #PayUp #COP29

  • Despite the heartbreaking outcomes of @COP29_AZ on #Climate and #LossAndDamage finance, we refuse to back down. 💪 Communities were failed, our demands were ignored, and justice was denied. Yet, we find strength in the small victories we’ve achieved in the past and remain determined to fight for what’s right. Our Global Co-Coordinator, Training Coordinator, and Eastern & South-Eastern Asia Steering Committee members are currently in Manila for the 4th Board Meeting (B4) of the Fund for Responding to #LossAndDamage. This crucial gathering brings together decision-makers, activists, and stakeholders to discuss how to operationalize this fund and make finance accessible to those on the frontlines of climate devastation. 🌍 Why does this matter? Climate disasters are intensifying, and vulnerable communities are bearing the brunt of it. Without predictable, accessible finance, there can be no #ClimateJustice. The Fund for Loss and Damage is a vital step toward ensuring justice and support for the most affected. We remain steadfast in our commitment to justice, knowing that our fight is far from over. Together, we will not stop until #ClimateJustice is delivered. ✊ Let’s amplify our voices and keep the pressure on—because justice delayed is justice denied. 🔥 #LossAndDamageFinanceNow!

  • Shreya K.C. While the world’s most vulnerable lose their homes, families, and futures to rising seas, raging floods, and relentless droughts, developed nations stand by, offering hollow promises and disguising inaction as progress. This is not leadership—it’s betrayal. COP29 Azerbaijan was a moment to act, to deliver for those who have contributed least to the climate crisis but suffer the most. Instead, we witnessed political evasion and a failure to provide meaningful support for Loss and Damage. This cannot continue. The stakes are life and death for millions. The world cannot afford such betrayal. We demand real action, real accountability, and real finance to address the escalating climate injustices facing frontline communities. 📢 Stand with us and call for #LossAndDamageFinanceNow! #ClimateJustice #COP29 #TimeToAct

  • 🔥 #COP29 Failed Frontline Communities! Once again, COP29 has exposed the unwillingness of the Global North to stand with those bearing the brunt of the climate crisis. This year’s outcomes represent an outrageous backslide, leaving the most impacted populations stranded without the resources they need to recover and rebuild from intensifying climate disasters. The glaring absence of quantified and accessible finance for Loss & Damage is not just disappointing—it’s a betrayal of trust and a violation of climate justice. Lives, livelihoods, and entire ecosystems are on the line, and the empty promises from the wealthiest nations cannot be tolerated. As we head to the #LossAndDamage Fund’s board meeting in Manila, we carry the voices of frontline communities with us. We will not forget this callous neglect, and we will continue to demand accountability, justice, and action. The time to deliver is now. No more delays. No more excuses. 📢 Join us in the fight for #LossAndDamageFinanceNow! #ClimateJustice #ClimateAction #COP29 Nicolas Finnemore Gaulin

  • 🌍 #COP29: A Betrayal of Frontline Communities 🌍 Hamira Kobusingye from Uganda speaks truth to power. COP29 Azerbaijan was branded the ‘Climate Finance COP,’ but it’s clear the promises were empty. This outcome reads like an obituary, not progress. How can we claim to represent frontline communities when their needs were blatantly ignored? The stakes couldn’t be higher. Millions are already facing the devastating impacts of climate change—floods, droughts, and displacement. Yet, what we witnessed at COP29 was more talk and less action. We cannot accept this betrayal. Climate finance must match the scale of the crisis—trillions, not billions. Anything less is an insult to the lives already lost and a denial of justice to those fighting to survive on the frontlines.” The time for genuine action is now. No more delays. No more excuses. 📢 Join us in demanding #LossAndDamageFinanceNow! Let’s ensure frontline communities are not forgotten. #ClimateJustice #LossAndDamage #COP
