🌐De-globalisation or re-globalisation, what does it mean for business? Last night, we were joined by a panel of expert commentators and an audience of senior business leaders for the first event in our Global Gateway Series. The discussion focussed on the topic of globalisation, exploring how recent geopolitical shifts might reshape global trade and relationships, and in turn what implications that could have for businesses in London and further afield. Hosted by LCCI Board Member and International Strategic Advisor, Richard Moir, our incredible lineup included James Landale, Diplomatic Correspondent, BBC, Peter Foster, Public Policy Editor, Financial Times and Olivia O'Sullivan, Director, UK in The World Programme, Chatham House. The discussion was timely and follows a recent report from Oxford Economics highlighting increased business concerns about geopolitical risks, particularly around the US elections. Notably, 40% of survey respondents identified a potential Trump presidency as a top global economic risk and expectations of a renewed trade war rose to 20% in the latest survey. The report underscores that businesses see significant downside risks if US policies shift dramatically, affecting areas like trade and immigration, with ramifications for sectors globally. The three panellists kicked off the discussion by exploring the implications of last week’s US elections and what "Trump Era 2.0" could mean for trade and the UK's business relationship with the US. They questioned whether we can expect to see more protectionist policies, such as increased tariffs, emanating from the US and what that will mean for global supply chains and industry. They also discussed the future relationships between global allies and what economic collaboration may look like in the coming years, as well as the importance of the "global social contract" in driving growth and improving living standards. One thing is for certain: businesses have a unique role to play in fostering international cooperation, even as protectionism and regional trade agreements reshape the landscape. Thank you to all who joined us for this event – the first in our Global Gateway Series. We will be diving deeper into the insights from the panel in the coming days – so keep an eye out for more👀 #LondonChamber #GlobalTrade #Globalisation #FutureOfBusiness #FosteringCollaboration #GlobalGateway

Many thanks to the University’s Business Studies Lecturer, Michael Filippidis, for his warm welcome and for introducing the Chamber to the Business School students.

Business owners are the heartbeat of the UK economy. But with over 50% of small businesses failing after 5 years, often through lack of knowledge or lack of funding, it’s crucial that business owners have access to the right support and advice to be able to maintain and develop their companies. That’s why we created our Business Owners’ Club and our dedicated Steering Group. LCCI's Business Owners Club Steering Group provides the Chamber with effective advice and guidance to ensure that business owners members are always offered the right support💼 Find out more about the group and our optimised support for business owners: https://lnkd.in/e2gW26Cf Committee: Abby Ghafoor, Anil Gupta, Duncan Hopwood, Robert Palmer, ANNIE W W PANG, Gary Ruffhead MCQI CQP - IRCA Principal Auditor, Debra Spurway, Andy Stonehouse, Scott Robert Willis Programme Partner: Lenovo #businessowner #entrepreneur #entrepreneurship #londonbusiness #lcci
