Introducing our first ever Stout Cask Finish, launching 03.12.24. In 2023, we celebrated our 5th birthday by collaborating with Overtone Brewing Co - a Glasgow-based brewery who were on the hunt for whisky casks. Our Production Team hand selected 6 casks (3 bourbon barrels, 2 STR barriques and 1 Oloroso Sherry butt), which were delivered to Overtone and used to mature their first double mash stout in. The result was ‘Overtone: Our Barley Aged’ - a rich, chocolatey stout matured in the exact cask make up we use to create our core single malt whisky, Our Barley. However, the collaboration didn’t end there. Our Trade Sales Manager Emma Kirk explains: “Once they were returned from Overtone, our production team filled each stout seasoned cask with ‘Our Barley’ for a year. Our distillery team have chosen three casks out of the six; the result is a delicious Stout Cask Finish that we are really proud of.” This is a UK-exclusive release, bottled at 52% ABV. It is deliciously buttery and sweet, with flavours of shortbread, toasted barley, toffee and tropical fruit on the palate. The finish is long and silky, packed with more fruit and cereal notes. Our Barley is crafted from and inspired by the barley we grow right here on Lochlea Farm. Matured in a combination of first-fill Bourbon, Oloroso Sherry, and STR (shaved, toasted, and re-charred) casks, this whisky achieves a perfect balance between sweet and savoury. Notes of fruit bon bons and marmalade on the nose melt into golden syrup, macadamia nuts, rye bread, and cream soda on the palate. A delectable dram to tuck into during the autumn months, this whisky opens with sweet medjool dates and baked apples on the nose, developing into Manuka honey and nutty, malted bread on the palate. We're delighted to announce that Darren McCormick has been promoted to Distillery Manager. Darren has been with Lochlea from the very beginning, witnessing its transformation from a construction site to a fully commissioned single malt distillery. Pictured (right) is him filling our very first cask in 2018! Six years on, he continues to ensure our spirit is of the highest quality by overseeing every aspect of production.
