Living Streets
Philanthropic Fundraising Services
The charity for everyday walking. Our mission; to achieve a better walking environment and inspire people to walk more.
About us
We are Living Streets, the UK charity for everyday walking. We want to create a walking nation, free from congested roads and pollution, reducing the risk of preventable illness and social isolation and making walking the natural choice. We believe that a walking nation means progress for everyone. Our ambition is to get people of all generations to enjoy the benefits that this simple act brings and to ensure all our streets are fit for walking. For more than 90 years we’ve been a beacon for walking. In our early days our campaigning led to the UK’s first zebra crossings and speed limits. Now, our campaigns and local projects deliver real change to overcome barriers to walking and our ground breaking initiatives such as the world’s biggest Walk to School campaign encourage millions of people to walk. Progress starts here: one street, one school, one step at a time.

Our #PedestrianPound report launches in Edinburgh today. The report makes the economic case for walkable streets. It shows that people who walk/wheel to do their shopping spend more and that pedestrianised high streets see bigger sales. This 3rd edition broadens the evidence base to include the benefits of happier and healthier people, stronger communities and a more resilient environment. Thank you to Transport for Quality of Life for undertaking this project; our lead funder, Paths for All; and to the Rees Jeffreys Road Fund, Foundation for Integrated Transport and the Welsh Government for their contributions. Today we’re asking for your help. Living Streets was able to ride the storm of the pandemic and cost of living crisis due to our reserves, but the future of our campaigns is now at risk. Our wonderful supporters have helped us achieve incredible things that benefit people every day: slower speeds on our roads, more children walking to school, better crossing times. With a government talking about prioritising active travel and a ban on pavement parking, the time to deliver is now. But we need your help to keep up the pressure. Please donate today.
