💡Enhanced Learning with Light Up Learning💡 At LUL, our mentors work one to one with young people and will often identify potential future pathways in their sessions.. This past month one of our mentors arranged a visit to the department of Psychology at The University of Edinburgh, thanks to the Widening Participation Team. The mentee was able to find out more about studying Psychology and explore the university. “We also met a Psychology student ambassador who toured us around and we got the opportunity to ask questions. I liked this because it gave me the chance for some burning questions in my head to be finally answered first hand after a long time of wanting to study Psychology.“ The mentee left feeling more curious and eager to explore this topic more with the support of their mentor💡 If you would like to support more young people in your community to explore future pathways, you can contribute to our winter campaign here: https://lnkd.in/egyj98zt

About us
Light Up Learning is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation providing one-to-one mentoring for high school students in Edinburgh and the Lothians. The programme aims to address both equality and access issues in education and disengagement in the traditional classroom setting by creating low-stress, supportive, and playful learning environments for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. We place each student in charge of their own learning experiences and give them the resources, skills, and contacts they need to achieve their potential.

One of our sponsors is Cash for Kids Edinburgh, the Lothians, Fife & Falkirk, who help us bring supplies to our one-on-one mentoring sessions in schools. Lately our young people have been unleashing a lot of creativity! Being able to show up every week with the art supplies needed means mentees get to explore their creative side According to a review by Research Scotland, arts in education can: ⚡ empower young people 📚 support learning across the curriculum 🌟 build important skills that benefit young people both inside and outside the classroom 💡What lights you up? 💡 Report: https://lnkd.in/exSwQuyZ #MentoringMatters #GrowthMindset #MentorConnections #Mentoring #Youthwork #YouthWorkChangesLives #YouthLed #Socialimpact #Mentoringworks #Lifeskills #Empower

We are delighted to finally share some insights on the impact we had in 2022-23! At Light Up Learning we provide one-to-one mentoring to young people aged thirteen and eighteen. We are dedicated to igniting a love of learning and transforming the nature of education in Scotland. Mentees are placed in charge of their own learning, while Light Up Learning helps them build the resources, skills and contacts they need to achieve their potential. Light Up Learning’s mentoring programme has demonstrated tangible positive outcomes for our Mentees this year, supporting the development of core skills, increased enjoyment of learning, strengthened Mentor relationships, increased school attendance and favourable changes in educational perceptions. The extensive feedback received illustrates the programme’s effective contribution to both Mentees’ educational journeys and their personal development. How mentees describe learning in their mentoring sessions: “I enjoy learning more. I hated reading stuff, didn't want to come into school. I feel like Light Up Learning helped me open up more options. Now I want to come into school, I've found myself being excited about coming into school. I have improved my relationships with teachers too which helps.” We can't wait too see what our young people achieve in 2024!
