On Thursday December 5th, VARA, in partnership with Global Digital Finance (GDF), hosted a roundtable discussion on “Drawing Outside the Regulatory Lines,” bringing industry together to explore areas of digital finance and digital asset innovation that do not fit neatly within regulation. Discussion focused on how regulators can work collaboratively with industry to shape and develop regulations around new innovation in Dubai and globally. In particular, the conversation delved into the DeFi sector and approaches to regulatory development.  The roundtable also highlighted VARA’s approach to regulating staking, sparking valuable insights on how global regulators might embrace innovation in staking within their own frameworks.   Special thank you to Elise Soucie Watts from Global Digital Finance, Arushi Goel from Chainalysis, Hedi Navazan from 1inch, Sep Alavi from White Star Capital, Meera Judge from Binance, Tarik Erk from Crypto.com, and Sebastian W. from Komainu, for their insightful contributions.

    GM @ Komainu | ₿ | Digital Assets Custody & Strategy

Enjoyed speaking about the Future of Staking Regulation this morning at a roundtable organised by by the Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority [VARA] and Global Digital Finance, with my fellow panelists Meera Judge and Tarik Erk. This event explored the areas of digital finance and digital asset innovation that don’t fit neatly within existing regulation. The roundtable discussed the #DeFi sector and approaches to regulatory development, and also explored insights into staking innovation and how #VARA and global regulators are approaching this. Whilst all Digital Asset innovation starts with retail, institutions are also actively engaged with staking. At Komainu we continue to test the latest developments in staking, including re-staking and #Bitcoin staking to ensure that we can meet our clients’ needs, whilst continuing to provide a regulated and compliant service offering. Reach out if you want to find out more. Thank you again to Vanessa Zuabi and Elise Soucie Watts for the interesting gathering.

  • In August, we were among the first to announce custody support for the BlackRock USD Institutional Digital Liquidity Fund (BUIDL). In October, we also announced that Komainu and Hidden Road now support BUIDL as collateral under our triparty collateral management agreements. This enhancement allows Komainu clients, who are whitelisted eligible investors in BUIDL, to trade via Hidden Road using BUIDL as collateral. BUIDL holdings will remain securely in custody with Komainu, ensuring the highest standards of asset security and regulatory compliance. This enables institutions to leverage their BUIDL holdings while maintaining the integrity and security of their assets within Komainu’s regulated and segregated custody. • We are attending OffshoreAlert London 2024! OffshoreAlert London 2024 comes at a critical time for institutions involved in seized crypto assets, as discussions will explore intelligence, investigations, and recovery, bringing together participants from high-value international finance. Law enforcement agencies, governments, and insolvency practitioners are increasingly encountering cryptocurrency in their investigations. We also work with partners such as Wave Digital Assets to assist in asset recovery strategies for liquidating these volatile assets to minimise market impact and maximise value.
