Kishorn Port Ltd recently saw the blowdown of the Northern Producer. Decommissioning, demolition, and recycling of the FPF is being carried out by lead contractor Liberty Industrial, working closely with KPL and its partners. The demolition saw the controlled collapse of the platform using 38 explosive charges at strategic points. This represented one of the largest single uses of explosives at a demolition site in Europe, ensuring the platform collapsed onto itself in a controlled manner. The next stage will be to load the bulk of the ferrous metal out by sea to foundries for recycling. #kishornport #fergusontransport #leithsscotland #NSTA #SEPA #northernoffshore #libertyindustrial #DecomMission #oilandgasuk

Alasdair Ferguson, KPL Director and Kevin Ferguson, Operations and Project Manager were delighted to accept, on behalf of KPL, the original bell from the now successfully decommissioned Northern Producer. Gordon Donald, Northern Offshore Ltd and Adam King, Liberty Industrial Ltd presented the ship’s bell, originally named “Nortroll” from 1976-1981. Alasdair commented “On behalf of the KPL Directors we are thrilled to receive the Northern Producer ship’s bell on behalf of the team. It will be a constant reminder of the decommissioning job well done by all involved. Thank you to Northern Offshore and Liberty Industrial for the very kind gesture and for the opportunity to carry out this decom project at Kishorn Port & Dry Dock.” The FPF vessel has also been called in the past “Ali Baba” (1981 – 1990), “Emerald Producer” (1990 – 1996) before taking its current name of “Northern Producer”. The ship’s bell will now spend the rest of its days, proudly displayed at Kishorn Port & Dry Dock, the final resting place of the large “Semi-submersible” Northern Producer FPF, which came into the loch back in April 2021. KPL are looking forward to attending the OEUK Offshore Decommissioning Conference in St Andrews this week and show casing our facilities and the capabilities. In the meantime, here is a short video of the recent recycling of the Northern Producer from start to finish. Great work, by Liberty Industrial Ltd, Kishorn Port Ltd, Ferguson Transport and Marine Services, Leiths (Scotland) Ltd and Northern Offshore Ltd, who all played their part, along with the amazing supply chain and all the contractors involved, to make the project such a success and delivering it in a safe and environmentally friendly way. A huge well done to everyone involved. Thank you again to the local community for their support, along with the regulators in HSE and SEPA who ensure good safe and sound practices are always adhered to. Colin Ortlepp, Director KPL was pleased to host a recent visit from a group of Highland Council planning and environmental staff as part of the Royal Town Planning Institute’s continuing professional development programme. The event focused on the development of the port from the original 1970’s yard through to present day operations, and the various management measures employed to integrate our activities with the local environment and communities. Claire Farmer, Principal Town Planner and Team Leader from the Highland Council commented; “Thank you to Kishorn Port Ltd for the opportunity to visit your site for an interactive learning experience. This was a fantastic opportunity to learn about the regeneration of Kishorn Port Ltd, especially for the Highland Council’s new planners and associates. It gave everyone the opportunity to see how the site is working on becoming self-sufficient, whilst working with the neighbouring companies in a very rural location to reduce their carbon footprint. The Highland Council acknowledge the importance of this site, with Kishorn Port identified as a key strategic site and port in NPF 4. Kishorn Port has an important role in Scotland’s green transition, actively helping the shift from an industrial site towards supporting the offshore renewables sector.” #kishornport #fergusontransport #leithsscotland #highlandcouncilplanning
