Update - Campaign for a Manufacturing Champion! This is my last post now until the 9th of January as I’m taking a much-needed break over the festive period and making the most of the opportunity to rest, recharge, reset and re-focus for 2025. My goals for next year are the same: - ·       Continue to raise support for our campaign, fight for a stronger voice for SMEs, and ensure the conversation for improved support continues at all levels of Industry and Government. ·       Create a central resource website for UK Manufacturing where those in, and those around, the industry can access what they need, when they need it, from one simple, and clear, platform. ·       Communicate good news, important events, industry developments and opportunities through these weekly campaign posts. Oh – and try to remember that I can only do so much, I am human and need to slow down a little more often than I do…! It’s been a frustrating year in so many ways, and some have said we haven’t achieved anything. I disagree. Together, and with your interaction with these posts, we have shown that with a shared passion, a mutual interest, a clear goal, and a commitment to change, we can become a loud and influential voice. The Minister for Manufacturing campaign has never had so much trade press coverage; numerous trade and membership organisations are now supporting this campaign (even if not necessarily in the same language or terms) and it is spoken about at the majority of industry events. 𝙏𝙝𝙖𝙩’𝙨 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙗𝙖𝙙 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙖 𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙩𝙡𝙚 𝙇𝙞𝙣𝙠𝙚𝙙𝙄𝙣 𝙘𝙖𝙢𝙥𝙖𝙞𝙜𝙣. And it’s all thanks to you! It’s thanks to the support, the shares, the comments, the conversations, and the collaboration of so many people singing from the same song sheet. For all of that, I express my sincerest and most heartfelt thanks and gratitude for standing up for what you believe, and for what this industry needs and deserves. I’m confident 2025 will be the year of UK Manufacturing. No matter what happens, no matter what else is thrown at us, we will do what we always do – we’ll step up, we’ll fight, we’ll be the brilliant and resilient people we are. Because that’s what we do in this industry… We get sh*t done. We make things. We make great things happen. So, here’s to 2025, and although there are challenges ahead, it will bring opportunities for all. And I look forward to working with you all for another year when I return in January. Update - Campaign for a Manufacturing Champion! Apologies for another pre-scheduled post today but it is our long-awaited visit to the House of Lords with Jason Pitt, the Made in Yorkshire, Made in the Midlands Teams, and in support of the Backing Britain Campaign. It has been a wonderful year for my little campaign, and I am honoured and heartened to see so many voices uniting in a call for a dedicated, experienced, and passionate manufacturing professional to represent us in Government, and be our voice in policy setting. It’s more important now than ever with so many feeling a tad disillusioned with what we’ve seen from our new Government so far, but the original intent may still be there, we just need to help steer the direction to ensure we get what we need to thrive....not what others say we need to survive. This week has seen further mentions and support for our superb SME’s. The fantastic Poppy Bramford and the amazing Enginuity team submitted their response to the Industrial Strategy green paper, and I can’t thank them enough for focusing on the mostly unheard needs of the SME community. In addition, the fabulous and unstoppable Stephen Morley and the Confederation of British Metalforming (CBM) has published their budget response and called out the Government for “pulling out the red carpet of growth from under UK Manufacturing.” He continued: “Going forward this now begs the question…can we trust Labour with the Industrial Strategy? "It is one thing giving us one, but it’s the content that counts especially for SMEs, who are constantly overlooked. “Who is really speaking for SMEs in manufacturing? For me it wasn’t only the government’s credibility that was damaged by the budget but that of the B5 lobbying groups.” Courage is what will make the difference moving forward, and the more people taking the leap to "say it how it is" the better the industry, and politics, will be for it! We are gaining support, and an increasingly louder voice, from some of our trade representatives and lobbying groups, but as SMEs, we need to do more and that can only come from us, from our efforts, from our voices! 𝗪𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗰𝗼𝗽𝗵𝗼𝗻𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝗻𝗲, 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗳𝘂𝗹, 𝗯𝗲𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱, 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗶𝗿! Today will hopefully reinforce the message that we stand together, loud and proud, in support of our UK Engineering and Manufacturing industries.
