I love a good book!
I love to learn from others.
These are my book recommendations for anyone considering a career change in 2025.
1. The Career Stories Method: 11 Steps to Find Your Ideal Career - And Discover Your Awesome Self in the Process by Kerri Twigg
(not pictured because it's on my Kindle)
I like this book because it has practical, helpful, activities that unlock the stories of our careers and lives. We are the sum of the stories we tell about ourselves. Our CV, our answers in an interview, are all different ways of telling those stories. It will change the way you think about your career and yourself.
2. Atomic Habits by James Clear
(not pictured because I have it as an audio book)
Whilst not focused on career change, it is about building those habits that support you becoming who you want to be in your career. Whether that's someone who focuses on their goals, makes more connections, makes progress, has a greater sense of achievement and impact, travels more, is more confident, or manages their time better, it all starts with building the habits to support that change.
3. How to Get a Job You Love: Find a Job Worth Getting Up For by John Lees
(12th edition now available)
Packed with practical exercises that help you to connect with a job that will work with you. It has lots of great advice on how to find that job and secure it with a great interview.
4. The Squiggly Career by Helen Tupper and Sarah Ellis
This colourful book starts by acknowledging that our careers are rarely linear. It then provides lots of great exercises to help you discover opportunity and design your career. That could be by changing the way you work, or by changing your career wholesale.
5. Love Work by Ben Renshaw and Sophie Devonshire⚡️
We all want to thrive at work and this book takes you through the seven steps to do just that. Packed with case studies and well thought out activities to help you apply the seven steps to your work, this is a must have for your book shelf.
6. The Job Search Playbook by Andrew MacAskill
Written at a time of great change, this book is still relevant today. With AI tools being used more and more in the recruitment industry, Andrew's book focuses on the hidden job market and how to access it. Still one of my favourites for advice on how to leverage LinkedIn.
7. Do what you are by Paul D. Tieger, Barbara Barron and Kelly Tieger
This book is focuses on discovery of the perfect career through your personality type. With case studies, suggestions for customising your job search and defining your career satisfaction, it pulls it all together with an easy to follow ten step process to create your personal career plan.
There are many books on the market designed to help you find your most rewarding career path. Do you have a recommendation to share?
