The festive season is almost upon us. How will you find time to slow down and restore some calm over the coming weeks? Let’s not beat around the bush: Christmas can be hectic. With family to see, presents and food to buy, and a packed social calendar, you can come away from this season feeling even more stressed and exhausted than you went into it! That’s why we’re big advocates of carving out moments of calm for yourself – even when life is moving a million miles an hour. This festive season, set aside a few minutes each day to slow down, be present and engage your senses. You might do this through meditation, journalling or a walk in nature. No matter what a moment of calm looks like to you, maintaining this habit will help you achieve a more peaceful, fulfilling and mindful Christmas break. Spending time reflecting and returning to your body will leave you feeling energised, restored and able to connect deeper with your loved ones and the world around you. What is your favourite way to spend a moment of calm? #Learning #LeadershipCoaching #PersonalDevelopment #Mindset

Start working 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 your brain, rather than against it. Use these 5 simple brain hacks to optimise your daily life and performance ⬇️ 1️⃣ Avoid blue light at night. Both natural and artificial blue light will block the hormone melatonin and signal to your brain that it’s time to wake up. While this alertness can be useful in the mornings when you’re trying to start your day productively, it’s less ideal when it’s stopping you from getting to sleep at night. To help yourself get a better night's sleep and wake up feeling more rested, try to avoid blue light from screens and devices for at least an hour before bed. 2️⃣ Embrace a growth mindset. Rather than believing that mistakes and setbacks are overwhelming or unconquerable, a growth mindset emphasises the importance of change and constant development. Even short exposure to a growth mindset has been shown to improve people’s capacity for change and motivation to learn. So, wherever possible, try to reframe failure and position challenges as opportunities for improvement. 3️⃣ Create an environment that suits your needs. We all have conditions that help us do our best work. Maybe you need a clean desk to be productive or work best with classical music playing in the background. Whatever you need to be your best, introduce more of that into your life and daily routine. 4️⃣ Offload information from your brain. Rather than relying on your internal memory stores, offloading information to a planner or note on your phone could significantly improve your memory and performance. Cognitive offloading will be especially beneficial when multiple pieces of information must be stored in your mind at once - for example, keeping track of schedules and appointments or writing down your shopping list. 5️⃣ Schedule your daily tasks in advance. Better scheduling and time optimisation will help you stay focused, productive and efficient. Planning out the day’s tasks in advance helps you avoid wasting time deciding which task to do next. While scheduling your day according to when your brain is at optimal performance can help you complete these tasks more efficiently. For example, you might schedule big, important tasks for the morning when your brain is most alert, and emails for when your attention begins to trail off at the end of the day. Do you already use any of these hacks? Are there any more you’ve found that make a big difference to your performance? #Coaching #Behaviour #PersonalDevelopment #Mindset

Unsure if coaching is for you? Allow us to debunk 3 of the most common coaching myths once and for all ⬇️ We’ve lost count of the number of misconceptions we’ve heard about coaching over the years. And nothing brings us more joy than being the people to bust those myths and send people along their coaching journey to a better self. Today, we’d like to share some of the most common myths we hear: ➡️ ‘A coach will just tell me what to do.’ Coaching relationships are a true partnership. Rather than telling you what to do, a coach helps you find the confidence and clarity needed to find your own answers and solutions. ➡️ ‘Things aren’t bad enough for coaching.’ Coaching isn’t always a reactive response. Sometimes, it's about introducing tools and techniques ahead of time. This way, you can avoid a lot of future stress and worry. ➡️ ‘I don’t want to commit to months or years of coaching.’ While a lot of people benefit from long-term coaching, others drop in and out of sessions as and when they need. Sometimes, one session will be all you need to find the answer to a problem. What’s the most common misconception you’ve heard about coaching? As the days get shorter and dark evenings creep in, your productivity might start to suffer. Why not try these 4 tips to keep yourself going? 👀 There’s nothing worse than looking out your window at 3pm, only to see it’s already almost dark. Talk about losing all motivation. Fortunately, there are plenty of small changes you can make to fight against the darkness and keep yourself feeling razor sharp. These might include: ➡️ Playing background music As humans, we have both a conscious attention system (where we consciously direct our energy) and an unconscious one (everything else our senses pick up and use to distract us). Because of this, background music can improve your productivity, keeping your unconscious system occupied and drowning out all the creaks, bangs or shouts that might otherwise distract you. ➡️ Get enough sleep While waking up at 5am every day might sound impressive and disciplined, it only actually improves your productivity if you got 𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 sleep. This is why it’s better to prioritise getting a full night of quality sleep over waking up at any particular time. ➡️ Introduce greenery to your workspace Research has shown that having plants and greenery in the workplace increases productivity. This is down to something called ‘soft fascination’. Unlike harsh stimuli like screens, writing and people, focusing on plants keeps our brain occupied without being taxing. In fact, it can be restorative and leave mental space for reflection on whatever it is you’re working on. Do you already use any of these techniques to keep you productive? #Neuroscience #ProfessionalDevelopment #WellbeingAtWork #Productivity
