**Limited tickets remaining** The #DigitalEra has now opened the door to making online catalogues raisonnés. What advantages and disadvantages are there with respect to paper catalogues? Can print catalogues turn digital and vice versa? Is having both useful? Is it feasible? With the power to constantly and immediately update and potentially erase past information and opinions, what does the word “raisonné” mean in a contemporary digital world? The second panel of our @International Catalogue Raisonné Association annual conference will address this theme from the perspectives of #scholars, #auctionhouses #artistsfoundations #artistsestates, #curators and #educators, with distinguished panellists David Grosz, Frances Fowle, Giovanna Bertazzoni and Sebastiano Barassi, moderated by Andrea Rose. International Catalogue Raisonné Association reposted this
FULL PROGRAMME NOW ONLINE! REGISTER TODAY for the International Catalogue Raisonné Association’s annual conference: ‘New Thinking About the Catalogue Raisonné’, on January 9, 2025, at Mishcon de Reya LLP, Africa House, 70 Kingsway, London (In-person and via online streaming). While print #cataloguesraisonnés have an enduring value, the field of cataloguing artworks is rapidly expanding and changing. New #digital models are appearing, from THE WILDENSTEIN PLATTNER INSTITUTE “Digital Corpus” to #Holt/#Smithson Foundation's "Atlas," #HansArp “Critical Survey” and #SophieTauberArp “Oeuvre Catalogue” to the The Modigliani Initiative. We are witnessing a critical expansion beyond the term “catalogue raisonné” as well as a serious rethinking of its traditional and current approaches and uses. For the Van Gogh Worldwide Resource museums are joining forces, Factum Foundation’s digital scanning are offering alternative approaches to cataloguing. Why and how are some artists' archives, estates, and living #artists rethinking the catalogue raisonné’s format and purpose? Why do so few #women and non-binary artists have catalogues? What can we learn from non-Western approaches like #BeninDigitalProject or #NativeAmericanArt? How will this affect #artlaw and the #artmarket? Sponsors: Mishcon de Reya LLP, Cogapp, Christie's. A reminder about the upcoming ICRA x ALA Spotlight on Art Law - "To authenticate - or not?" Register at the link below.

"To authenticate--or not?" International Catalogue Raisonné Association (ICRA) is delighted to announce a joint discussion with a distinguished panel of art lawyers from the Art Lawyers Association (ALA) to be held online on Wednesday 23rd October, 2024 at 16.00 BST. Many #catalogueraisonné #authors, #arthistorians, #artists, and #artistsestates are no longer authenticating artworks, and #artlawyers in some countries are no longer advising authentication of artworks. Others still believe it is the only way. Why authenticate? Why not? What is at stake? Is there a shift going on in the field of legal thinking about authentication? Are there new landmark cases? Where does that leave #cataloguesraisonnés and their authors (including living artists preparing their own CRs)? Our panel includes different jurisdictional legal perspectives: Steven Schindler (Schindler Cohen & Hochman LLP); pierre valentin (Art Lawyer and Founder of ICRA); Amanda Gray (Partner, Mishcon de Reya LLP); and Martin Wilson (PHILLIPS AUCTIONEERS LIMITED), with ICRA Board Member and lawyer Sarah Davis as moderator. The panel will be introduced by ICRA Chair Sharon Hecker. Register here and submit questions for our panel:

Last chance to join this Thursday's joint ICRA and ALA spotlight on legal issues and the catalogue raisonné. Visit https://lnkd.in/e6Wm-QWj or email [email protected] to sign up!
The Catalogue Raisonné raises a host of fascinating legal issues. How is a CR used in legal transactions and litigations? What discrepancies can arise between experts with respect to a CR, or between an artist's heirs/foundation/estate and the CR? What if the expert changes? Is the CR a record of fact or opinion? Can it be objective? How do auction houses view works not in a CR? Are CR authors liable for negligence? How do courts react to such claims? What legal protection do CR authors have? There are still a few days left to register for the joint International Catalogue Raisonné Association (ICRA) and the Art Lawyers Association (ALA) online Spotlight Zoom session on #Legal Issues and the #CatalogueRaisonné. The session will be introduced by ICRA Chair Sharon Hecker and moderated by Sarah Davis. Our distinguished panel of #artlawyers from different jurisdictions and viewpoints includes Steven Schindler (Founding Partner, Schindler Cohen & Hochman LLP) pierre valentin (Art Lawyer and Co-Founder of ICRA), Amanda Gray (Partner, Mishcon de Reya LLP), and Martin Wilson (Chief Legal Counsel and Head of Fiduciary Services, Phillips).
