Gianluca Minella, our Head of Research, has commented on Fitch Ratings recent report which clarifies its approach for assessing infrastructure assets in sectors outside the traditional core-infrastructure space - the first of its kind from a rating agency perspective. Gianluca’s key takeaways from the report: - Fitch recognises that infrastructure is fast-evolving, and new sectors are continually arising, as global challenges, such as the energy transition, require massive long-term capital investments. - Clear criteria provide important guidance to infrastructure investors at a crucial time, as the transaction flow in newer infrastructure sectors is expanding and investors are seeking higher returns. - Criteria can help navigate the market and identify sectors that will continue to be considered and financed as infrastructure in the long-term. At InfraRed, factors considered during investment selection have been well aligned with the criteria identified by Fitch across our Core and Value-add strategies for many years. These criteria serve as a tool to screen the market and identify investments with the desired infrastructure characteristics, and serve as a risk map for asset selection, de-risking and active asset management. Great to see Brazos Wind Farm be presented with POWER magazine's 2024 Top Plant Award, earlier this month. Brazos has been recognised for its recent repowering, which resulted in increased power output with fewer turbines. We are delighted to have invested in this wind farm and its proactive approach to extend its lifespan and improve its efficiency. We believe the renewables sector in the US remains highly attractive, and that these types of developments provide further support to the underlying market dynamics. For further information about the project, please read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/eT8mgeYZ #renewableenergy #windfarms #investmentopportunities

We are pleased to announce that InfraRed Capital Partners Ltd has been selected by the Board of Digital 9 Infrastructure plc (D9) to become its Investment Manager, responsible for leading its previously announced wind-down. Our selection follows a competitive tender process and remains subject to regulatory approvals. We have been tasked with the disposal of the 5 remaining digital infrastructure assets, which includes D9’s investment in Arqiva. Value creation is at the heart of our approach, and we will work with the respective management teams as we seek to position these assets for sale. We are looking forward to working closely with the Board to maximise shareholder value. We are delighted that the Blankenburg Tunnel project has achieved a significant milestone by reaching the availability date, ahead of opening later this year. InfraRed’s asset management team played an active role in this project since the investment in 2019. We worked with the wider project team, drawing from our extensive experience delivering major infrastructure projects, to help de-risk the construction process and enhance value for investors. We would like to congratulate the whole team for their achievement, and to thank the client Rijkswaterstaat and our partners DEME Group and Ballast Nedam for their collaboration throughout this process. #infrastructureinvestment #assetmanagement #blankenburgtunnel
We are thrilled to congratulate the entire BAAK Blankenburgverbinding team on reaching the Availability Date! Rivoir is proud to have had the opportunity to work as manager of the SPC with all the key parties involved in this landmark infrastructure project. This milestone is the result of 6.5 years of relentless effort, collaboration, and commitment from our contractors, Ballast Nedam and DEME Group, from the contracting authority Rijkswaterstaat (RWS), from our dedicated investors, InfraRed Capital Partners Ltd, Ballast Nedam Concessions, DEME Group Concessions and initially Macquarie Capital. We also are grateful to our supporting lenders group, led by KBC Bank & Verzekering and our supporting advisors Norton Rose Fulbright, Stibbe, Operis, AtkinsRéalis. A centerpiece of the project is the 950m Maasdelta Tunnel, which descends deep beneath the Scheur River. This vital infrastructure connects the A15 and A20 highways, strengthening transport links across Europe’s largest economic zones. Beyond its functional achievements, the project embraces sustainability. In the coming years, portions of the tunnel will be covered with greenery, representing the commitment to eco-friendly infrastructure. The tunnel will be open for traffic per 7th of December 2024. A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved for making this project a resounding success!

Last Thursday, we had the pleasure of hosting our annual charity dodgeball event, which raised over £50,000 for the InfraRed Charitable Foundation. The Foundation is an independent charity with the mission of promoting social inclusion by funding the employment of Community Engagement Leads (CELs) in secondary schools located in high deprivation areas. We had the pleasure of hearing directly from Headteacher Saqib Chaudri and CEL Sean Harling, at Oasis Academy Shirley Park, a beneficiary of a grant from the InfraRed Charitable Foundation. Sean talked about the impact of these roles in addressing inequality and enhancing social mobility by assisting teaching staff with key initiatives, such as mentoring programmes and counselling for students with problems at home, as well as reducing barriers to educational attainment. Since its inception, our dodgeball event has cumulatively raised over £240,000. A big thank you to all the teams who participated, putting on their costumes and showcasing their competitive spirit on the court—all for a good cause. A special congratulations are due to the team from Investec for their well-earned victory! We are already looking forward to next year’s event! #dodgeball #charity #socialinclusion #communityengagement

In an article for IPE Real Assets, our CEO Jack Paris discusses the mid-market and its central role for accessing the decarbonisation and digitalisation tailwinds. He argues that the mid-market is where capital can be most effectively deployed, as it is where decarbonisation and digitalisation opportunities are concentrated. A diverse range of projects are being financed from edge data centres to vital decarbonisation technologies, such as battery storage and biofuels. To read more about the reasons why we view the mid-market as central to these tailwinds, the impact on private infrastructure allocations, as well as considerations when investing in this part of the market, please see the PDF below or click here: https://lnkd.in/ekBbkVMW

Following the recent interest rate cuts by the Federal Reserve and other major Central banks, Gianluca Minella, provides his take on how infrastructure investors have been positioning for falling rates: -Prospects of lower rates are pushing investors to decrease infrastructure debt allocations and increase allocations to equity strategies offering potential for higher returns. -There has been a discernible uptick in private infrastructure fundraising in the first half of 2024, with value-add strategies witnessing the strongest growth. -Investors are increasingly viewing the 2024/2025 core infrastructure vintages as conducive to crystallising attractive entry yields in high quality assets To access our newsletter for the full analysis, please click here: https://lnkd.in/evgFARuD #infrastructureinvesting #marketoutlook #economy #interestrate

At a recent Infrastructure Investor roundtable, Gianluca Minella, InfraRed Capital Partners Ltd’s Head of Research, shared his observations on the outlook for mid-market infrastructure. Gianluca highlighted how the mid-market has become increasingly attractive for infrastructure investors, as they seek to generate higher returns. Gianluca also discussed the partial shift away from thinking about infrastructure sectors, with a greater focus on the powerful trends underpinning demand instead – “This is a move reflected by various LPs who are focusing on thematic relevance rather than only sectors. Those types of questions are important because thematics have the power to change sector risk profiles."
