  • When should businesses acquire HR support? There's no universal answer, but for a practical perspective: Early engagement!! 🤍 If you're starting a business, consider getting some HR advice before hiring your first employee. It helps you lay strong foundations for contracts, policies, and compliance, avoiding potential issues down the line. HR consultants can provide affordable, one-off services to set things up right from day one. The "Ops or Finance Wearing HR Hats" Trap ⛔ In many small businesses, HR responsibilities often fall to operational or finance managers, who might lack expertise or capacity. This can work temporarily, but as the business grows, the risks of mishandling people issues increase. Having HR support early can prevent costly mistakes, including disputes, compliance breaches, or inefficient processes. Growth Stage Warning Signs 📲 Waiting until you hit 50 employees—or a significant revenue milestone—often means you're playing catch-up. At this point, you'll spend time and resources unraveling ad-hoc processes or patching up cultural or compliance gaps that could have been avoided. HR support at this stage is typically more expensive than getting things right at the outset. Proactive Steps: ⭐ Before First Hire: Engage an HR consultant to establish contracts, policies, and basic onboarding processes. 5–15 Employees: Assess whether you need ongoing HR support or technology to manage growth and employee needs. 50+ Employees: Invest in dedicated HR personnel or a robust consultancy partnership to focus on strategy, compliance, and engagement. Ultimately, early HR support isn't just about compliance—it's about creating a positive culture and ensuring a smooth employee experience. As you said, do the right thing for your people! #leadership #HR #humanresources #growth #startup #scaleup

  • If we approached finding the right systems in the same way we approach finding the right people, imagine how much time and pain could be saved. We support businesses in finding the right People system solutions based on their actual needs now and future. We then help them to implement and embed the system into the business - done right it's a game changer. Done wrong, it's a cash drainer. 🎯

Have you ever felt like the true value of your HR systems just goes unnoticed? HRIS and ATS are more than just tools—they're the heartbeat of an organization's efficiency. Yet, so often, they're picked based on cost alone, not on their ability to truly transform productivity and streamline operations. Choosing an HRIS or ATS isn't just about the price tag—it's about your team, your culture, and your growth. The right system can empower HR to focus on what really matters: your people, their growth, and creating an environment where everyone can thrive. When we choose these systems just to fit a budget, we risk limiting our team's potential. It's time we start recognizing the real value of effective HR systems—and what happens when we give our teams the tools they genuinely need! At House of Growth, we're all about making sure your HR systems empower, not just function. Let's make choices that truly support growth. #GrowthMindset #HRTech

  • The formula for creating a healthy culture can be massively over engineered 🥴 Having said that, getting it wrong and ending up with a toxic and unhealthy culture can be damaging and costly 🤦♀️ If your business is in early stages, here's some things to keep in mind when thinking about culture crafting: 🎯Hire emotionally intelligent leaders who model your ideal culture 🎯Communicate clearly, empathetically and regularly - clear communication is the killer of pointless ambiguity 🎯Focus on development and mentoring - soak up the experience and knowledge of people who have ''been there, done it'' and impart that wisdom to your teams #culture #leadership #growth #healthyculture #cultureeatsstrategyforbreakfast #leaders

  • The Power of Community/Lessons from the Blue Zones Have you ever wondered why certain communities across the globe consistently produce people who live longer, healthier, and happier lives? I'm genuinely fascinated by it and have been for a while, especially working in 'People' where we're constantly looking for strategies to keep people engaged, well, balanced and loyal. These areas, known as Blue Zones are found in regions like Sardinia in Italy, Okinawa in Japan, and Nicoya in Costa Rica - there are more but these are the first that come to mind. Things like Diet, physical activity, and a slower pace of life play roles, however one of the most impactful factors in these communities is their strong sense of connection, community and BELONGING! In Blue Zones, people aren’t just surrounded by neighbours—they are part of tightly knit communities where relationships are prioritised. Elders are integrated into family life, social gatherings are regular, and there is an intrinsic understanding that life is better when shared. This network of support fosters resilience, reduces stress, and provides a deep sense of purpose—key contributors to their exceptional longevity. But how does this translate to modern work or urban life? Prioritise Genuine Connections Just like in Blue Zones, fostering meaningful relationships at work or in local neighbourhoods can reduce isolation and improve mental wellbeing. Collaborate and Share Goals Whether it's a workplace team or a sports club, working towards shared objectives creates bonds that mimic the interdependence seen in these long-living communities. Celebrate Milestones Together Marking achievements or even small wins—birthdays, promotions, or project completions—strengthens ties and reminds people they are valued. Create Spaces for Interaction From regular coffee catch-ups to town hall meetings, opportunities for authentic dialogue help build trust and camaraderie. Purpose Through Belonging People who feel needed and appreciated tend to thrive. Encouraging involvement in community projects or workplace initiatives allows individuals to see the impact of their contributions. Blue Zones teach us that health isn’t just about what we eat or how much we exercise—it’s about how we connect. Think of the last time you felt truly energised or motivated. I bet you had just been a part of something that had community at it's heart. A thriving community can be the bedrock for a fulfilling and resilient life. Whether in the workplace or at home, embracing these principles can lead to longer-lasting wellbeing for everyone. #bluezones #connection #balance #work #leadership #hr

  • Embracing Your Inner Child at Work - Monday Musing We all have an inner child. Remember when you were a kid, full of wild ideas, unafraid to ask silly questions, and endlessly curious? Somewhere along the way, as we became “serious adults” in the workplace, many of us left that version of ourselves behind. But what if embracing your inner child could actually make you a better, more fulfilled professional? Bringing childlike qualities to work isn’t about being immature—it’s about reawakening the sense of wonder, playfulness, and creativity that children naturally possess. As adults, we often box ourselves into conventional ways of thinking, focusing on rules and routines. Yet, in today’s fast-paced world, businesses thrive on innovation, collaboration, and fresh perspectives. Embracing your inner child could be just what you (and your workplace) need.

  • Why People Should Be Your First Priority 🎯 Let’s be real, many businesses have a bad habit of treating HR and people operations like an afterthought. Things seem fine until they suddenly go pear-shaped, and only then do leaders realise that people strategy matters - yes it MATTERS. ALOT. Sound familiar? It’s the classic case of wanting the rewards without putting in the foundational work. We hear terms like “top talent” tossed around in meeting rooms and recruitment pitches willy nilly, with companies salivating over the idea of rockstar employees waltzing in and transforming everything. But here’s the truth: even if you manage to hire the crème de la crème, if your company doesn’t have its act together, you’re setting them (and your entire business) up for failure. You can hire the most brilliant, skilled individual, but if your onboarding process is an afterthought—think unclear roles, no sense of belonging, and a total lack of direction—you might as well be throwing money down the drain. Why? Because top talent doesn’t work in isolation. They need the right environment, tools, and support to thrive. Talent can’t magically transform a company that hasn’t done the foundational work. Think about it: every company is different, with its own quirks and culture. Even the most adaptable employee needs proper onboarding to understand the business and make a meaningful impact. Without it, your “top talent” might find themselves lost, frustrated, and disengaged—hardly the outcome you imagined when you invested in their cool shiny CV. Here’s where the unsung heroes of business—people specialists—come into play. If businesses engaged people experts from the get-go, they’d be laying down the essential foundations for success. We’re talking about everything from crafting a welcoming and effective onboarding experience to establishing a culture that attracts and retains top talent. When you invest in these foundational elements, your business has a robust launchpad, ready to scale and adapt. Imagine launching a rocket: you don’t just light a match and hope for the best. You build a sturdy launchpad, ensure everything is structurally sound, and only then do you prepare for lift-off. Your people strategy is that launchpad. Engaging HR and people specialists early on ensures you have strong structures in place, so when you do hire top talent, they can actually soar. Investing in your people strategy isn’t a “nice to have”; it’s a must. Stop waiting until things get messy before you prioritise your teams. Be proactive. Engage experts. Build a foundation that’s rock solid, and you’ll create a workplace where top talent doesn’t just join but stays, thrives, and drives your business forward. #leadership #startups #hr #peoplestrategy

  • Building a Thriving Culture Isn’t Rocket Science 🚀 In today’s business world, there’s no shortage of articles, white papers, and think pieces that complicate the ideas of culture, psychological safety, and meaningful workplace environments. But here’s a thought: building and nurturing a strong, positive culture isn’t as complicated as we’re often led to believe.... It comes down to a simple concept: Hire good leaders from the jump. And when we say good leaders, we mean those who are emotionally intelligent, kind yet assertive and clear. Emphasising both kindness and clarity is crucial. Leaders with high emotional intelligence who know how to balance empathy with honest, transparent communication set the foundation for a culture that people want to be a part of. These leaders will then hire other good, talented people, creating a cycle of growth and positivity. But what’s truly challenging? Trying to fix a culture that’s gone rotten. Often, a toxic environment develops because companies have prioritised skills over attitude and behaviours. When you fill an organisation with technically competent individuals who lack empathy, emotional intelligence, or the ability to communicate effectively, it’s a recipe for dysfunction. Unravelling the mess and trying to correct course is incredibly tough and time-consuming. So, what’s the moral of the story? Do it right from the start. Focus on people who align with your values, prioritise attitude and character alongside skills, and invest in leaders who embody both kindness and clarity. It’s far easier to maintain a great culture than to detox and rebuild one that’s turned sour. Simple as that. #culture #hr #leadership #management #business

  • Yesterday was an INSPIRING experience at the Thrive Law Summit: The Future of Work. The day was packed with incredible speakers and insightful discussions, and we came away feeling validated that what we’re doing at House of Growth aligns with the evolving landscape of work. Here are some key takeaways: - By 2030, 75% of the workforce will be Gen Z and Millennials. - HR leaders play a pivotal role in driving AI experimentation at work, more than any other leadership role. - The factor most important to these emerging workforce generations—and what keeps them committed to a business—is CONNECTION. - The UK lags behind the US and other European nations in productivity and performance, primarily because we aren't investing in the right areas. What does this mean for businesses? It highlights the challenges we’re helping companies tackle: equipping HR teams to be true innovators who drive productivity and performance. If HR professionals are bogged down with manual, non-value-adding tasks, they can’t focus on leveraging the right technology to boost efficiency, nor can they dedicate time to fostering a culture of connection—the very thing the future workforce demands. It’s NOT about implementing more technology or more systems; it’s about investing in the right tech—solutions that boost productivity and create the space needed for meaningful human connection. It’s about leveraging technology in two key ways: first, to drive productivity that frees up time, and second, to empower people with the skills to connect more deeply and empathetically. At House of Growth, we’re committed to helping organisations starting with HR. It starts and ends with people so don't sleep on what's coming! We empower HR leaders to become catalysts for innovation, equipped to foster real connection and effectively shape the workplace of the future. Get your HR house in order, and watch your business thrive ✨ #hr #hrtech #technology #people #humanresources #peopletech #futureofwork
