Building a better world through entrepreneurship 🌎
About us
Hatch is a national charity that supports underrepresented entrepreneurs from across the UK to launch and grow businesses that are both sustainable and successful, and have a lasting impact on their communities. We’re committed to building a fairer society by helping develop entrepreneurs’ skills, knowledge, and confidence through our unique programmes designed by entrepreneurs for entrepreneurs, and our sustainable, compassionate financial support offering. We’re not typical of the third sector. Although we’re a charity, we think and act like a business. Since 2014, we’ve supported more than 7,800 UK entrepreneurs to flourish, building a vibrant network of partners, funders, and investors who share our vision in the process. In 2022-23, more than 8 in 10 (84%) founders on our longer-term support programmes were female or from a marginalised gender, with more than 6 in 10 (64%) coming from a minority ethnic group. Nearly one in five (18%) founders on the same programmes told us they were disabled or neurodiverse. Our founders also told us the areas of knowledge and expertise they felt had seen the biggest improvements before and after completing a Hatch programme: - Accessing the funding they needed saw an increase of 97% - Measuring and communicating the impact of their business or organisation saw increases of 79% and 69% respectively. - Setting their organisation’s mission and vision saw an increase of 49% We estimate that since starting 10 years ago, businesses founded by our graduates employ more than 2,500 people in the UK and have raised more than £20m in investment. We work closely with our partners and funders, including UBS, J.P. Morgan, Yum!, Natwest and the Postcode Innovation Trust, bringing them closer to founders at every stage of their entrepreneurial journey. e: [email protected] t: 020 7993 0074 Twitter: @HatchEnterprise FB: www.facebook.com/HatchEnterprise Instagram: hatchenterprise

Our mission is to build a better world through entrepreneurship. We're working towards a fairer society where everyone has the tools and opportunities to succeed in business, and we're proud to have supported over 9000 entrepreneurs on their journey navigating the startup and social impact space since 2013. Our integral offering for underrepresented entrepreneurs are our cohort programmes, designed to facilitate peer-to-peer learning between entrepreneurs with shared values and experiences; thanks to our outstanding Programmes Team headed up by Mellissa Morgan, our Programme Managers Tiany V., Lia Deans and Felix Adisa Jackson, and Programme Coordinators Shari Lawrence-Willis and Paola Castillo. Charlie Ketchen, Toni-Ann M. and Agnese Cigliano feature in our roundup article; but there's plenty more testimonials and impact to dig into by visiting our latest Impact Report on our website, here: https://lnkd.in/eUnDyjdb

Our programmes are designed to remove the barriers often faced by those that don’t fit society’s typical image or perception of an entrepreneur, prioritising peer-to-peer learning and community building between entrepreneurs with shared values and experiences. Through targeting our support at underrepresented entrepreneurs we are consciously working to level the playing field and create a positive, diverse ecosystem that provides opportunities for those too often left behind and excluded from the sector. Khadim’s journey started with a simple vision: to share the warm, welcoming spirit of Senegalese culture — teranga — with London. From catering services and event popups to an online store, Khadim has built a true family around the ethos of Little Baobab. A home away from home, a place where every meal is a celebration, and every flavour tells a story of sharing, joy, and connection through Senegalese food and music. Khadim has just finished our Accelerator programme in partnership with Southwark Council, supporting medium-sized businesses across the borough scale through the six-month support programme❤️ #Accelerator #Funding #BusinessSupport #SupportLocal #Senegal

One of our many fantastic Programme Managers, Lia Deans, had the pleasure of representing Hatch at the Youth Business International (YBI) community of practice event in Madrid in November. YBI members from across the globe gathered at the offices of Fundación ONCE / Inserta to explore the delivery and next steps for the #Sustainability Toolkit, a resource developed for YBI members. What is the sustainability toolkit?🌱 Now, in its final year, the toolkit is a multi-year programme developed to support underserved and young entrepreneurs in building more sustainable and environmentally conscious businesses. The Sustainability Toolkit is being delivered in Germany, France, South Africa, Spain, and the UK by 10 more Youth Business International members, including Hatch. YBI have seen a remarkable range of youth businesses join the programme across Pilots 1 and 2, from architects to consultancies to carbon capture initiatives, textile production, feminine care, landscaping businesses, and restaurants and bakeries. The exchange event in Madrid brought together members who have delivered the programme to exchange challenges and successes in delivering the toolkit to their young entrepreneurs, with a focus on adapting to different settings, methodologies and underserved groups worked with amongst the participating member organisations. Read more about the fantastic collaborative efforts being made by YBI and its participating members to build a more sustainable, socially driven entrepreneurial ecosystem across borders: https://lnkd.in/eykSCFyV #CommunityOfPractice #SustainableEntrepreneurship #Sustainability #BusinessSupport #EnvrionmentalSustainability

The entrepreneurship sector can be a challenging one to navigate, and for people with disabilities this is compounded by inaccessibility and lack of consideration for different needs. We are proud to have launched a programme exclusively for Disabled entrepreneurs this year, and are committed to increasing the support we are able to offer to founders with disabilities and neurodivergence. One of our recent graduates, Charlie Ketchen, shares her experience of starting a business with a disability, and her advice to others in a similar position. "Becoming disabled changed my perspective on challenges, I am not deterred, I'm now like ‘okay, lets go!’" Read her story here: https://lnkd.in/eyBTGQmi #InternationalDayOfPeopleWithDisabilities #IDPWD #Entrepreneurship

Women and those from marginalised genders face additional challenges in entrepreneurship including struggles with imposter syndrome, a lack of role models with shared experiences, and discrimination when applying for funding. The majority of founders we support are women, and we tailor a lot of our programme and community content to reflect this, exploring the shared experience of those in our cohorts, discussing techniques to tackle imposter syndrome and sharing insights on running a business alongside caring responsibilities. "The event gave me the confidence to pitch in a corporate environment which I have little experience of." 🎤 Pitching your business can be a daunting experience, especially to new audiences, so our pitch competition held earlier this month in partnership with UBS was a welcome opportunity for eight entrepreneurs in the education and training sector to gain some practice, confidence, and expert advice. As well as tailored coaching from the UBS team on their pitches, participants received £500 each for taking part, and Ian Timbrell took home the £2,000 prize for his incredible organisation More Than Flags And Rainbows which is tackling homophobic bullying in schools. A huge thank you to UBS for making this possible and enabling our community to access such valuable advice and experience! #Entrepreneurship #Funding #CharityPartnership Naomi Nathan Dirk Bischof

Over the past three years, Glossier, Inc. has championed our work to ensure those underrepresented in business can launch and grow impactful businesses through a retail partnership that has given us yearly income through a £5 contribution from sales of specific products. The success of this partnership has prompted us to reach out for further potential retail partnerships, which can give back to Hatch through a monetary contribution from sales. Either a percentage contribution from purchases of a product or product range to a set amount donated per sale, there are ample ways to give through a simple partnership opportunity that not only supports us financially but also crucially spreads the word about our charitable mission: to level the playing field in entrepreneurship through network building, knowledge building, funding opportunities and ongoing opportunities for years to come in the form of pitch competitions, masterclasses, clinics and much more. If you'd like to follow in the footsteps of Glossier and help us build capacity to meet demand, the wonderful Deryl Thatcher (Walsh) MCIOF is here to chat!
